Very difficult to renew Public Services card online

It took 4 weeks for my wife to get her renewal card. She couldn't use the old one as it was immediately cancelled.

I called out to DunLaoghaire to renew mine. When entering I was told by the security Guard that there would be a delay as the person who deals with it was on their tea break?

No cover for this person?

Cover for a tea break?

Surely 15 minutes isn’t a big deal

Staggered tea breaks would make more sense I agree but if you’d arrived and not been told there was a delay due to tea breaks you’d not have noticed 15 minutes either way.

I did notice either way. I was the only person waiting and staring at an empty desk waiting for someone to occupy it. My parking meter fee also noticed it.

I submitted my online renewal this week - used the same photo that I did for my passport - and the entire process couldn't have been easier. I just had to confirm my details as per my revenue.ie record. 3 Clicks and I was done. I submitted it early - and got an email in 24 hours saying that the card will be posted closer to the current one's expiry date.

If you follow the Passport Photo rules for taking a picture (must not be a selfie, white background - nothing obscuring your face etc.) then I dont see where the issue arises.

Others have claimed earlier that following the passport photo guidelines didn't help.

We did all of that and nothing worked so had to go to S.W. office.

When I was getting photos printed in shop one day a while back there was a long queue of people waiting to get their photo taken for card. Guy in shop said it happens all the time where it will just not work for some.

I needed passport photo for renewal and decided to get local photo shop to do it for me. Photo was emailed to me and cost of 8 euro. They suggested it was the quality of the camera that made for problems in taking photos at home with smartphones. I had the PPS card photo done in matter of few minutes in Nutgrove as no Q.

Never had a problem taking photos for passport applications using my phone (nothing fancy - a 2018 Xiaomi Poco F1) and one of the free passport apps. Maybe some people make the mistake of taking a selfie with the front camera instead of the regular camera? Or the usual mistakes with lighting, framing, headgear etc.?

I've had problems uploading photos taken by visitors with either of my phones or with theirs. Puzzling and very annoying as it gives no indication as to specific problems. I'll ring today for an appointment and do my whinging when I get in there.
