Seems like transfers will get Sherlock of Labour over the line in Dublin Central ahead of the Hutch
 
I was away for a last minute holiday so didn’t vote. I’m reasonably happy with the outcome so far. If Labour and the Labour splitters could kiss and make up they’d be a reasonable serious political force. I’d rather see them doing well than the Shinners.

thats whats happened, hutch didn't get elected afterall, i'd say a big sigh of relief in the corridors of power but also the international media were feeding on this story, could you imagine the half empty dail with gerry hutch in the chamber being broadcast everywhere, maybe with danny healy rae up speaking
 
It look like its down to Bacik to negotiate (already the internal dissent is in the public domain). She is making sounds that she will talk to left but, as with MLMcD, how can she pull together any semblance of unity? She wants to have a policy platform with SD but Cairns has de facto ruled themselves out of the picture (one red line for each seat, so far!) and running a PBP candidate, now elected in Dublin North West, Rory Hearne whose housing policy is incompatible with the main parties (and reality). The main parties might get the bounce of the ball and not need a partner (but may pull in a few indies for stability purposes).

Not sure. Apparently they persuaded him to stand to stop Malachy Steenson and the emerging nationalist media from getting elected and Malachy Steenson, as we all know, deserved to be elected.

Watch the first few minutes of this and don't have the wool pulled over your eyes by the mainstream media.

regarding international coverage of irish election, just saw Catriona Perry on BBC news reporting from Dublin say that
"It looks like the centre left FF party is likely to be the largest party"
So nobody else buys the rubbish that FF and FG are right wing, they are centre left
 
Is there still a law that a TD can't be stopped by Gardai on the way to the Dail,I think some used to escape being breathalysed. Would have been handy for Hutch.

Do "we all know" that Steenson "deserved to be elected"? Really?

yes not much about that, she actually did much worse than in the european elections, don't think radical left policies are that popular in dublin central anymore, thats probably the end of her political career

"Left" these days has the same meaning as always i.e. tending towards socialist. But "Right" has developed a pejorative connotation, suggesting nativist and racist tendencies.
Both FF and FG are "right" in the sense of being in favour of the "enterprise economy" but without the pejorative connotations. They are "left" in that, as @Purple keeps reminding us they have very progressive tax and welfare policies.
Dare I say it but we seem to have a very civilised and balanced political landscape (even SF are house trained ). Kinda paradoxical as the big three have their roots in violent agitation.
