Better offers for new customers than existing- Virgin Media

Use if your in the final month of your contract or out of contract. It'll give you 50% off your current full price contract for the next 12 months
Only if they have already contacted you first though?
This offer is personal and exclusive to existing Virgin Media Broadband and /or TV customers only, who have been contacted by Virgin Media with the Half Price for 12 months offer via SMS.

I have virgin media. Was paying €35/mt x 12 mts. Due to go up to €70/mt. One month before contract end I called them to cancel it. They offered €45/mt. I declined and said cancel it. Had intended allowing it to cancel and then signing back up the next day as a new customer (I have done this before) for €35/mt. Interestingly, on this occasion, about 5 days before my contract was due to end (and 5 days before my 30 days notice period was up), they called me and offered €35/mt x 12 mts. I accepted this. So I could then cancel the cancellation and no down time whatsoever and have the new customer rate for a further 12 months.
The couple of days down time I would have had while waiting for new router does not bother me at all, I just use my phone as a hot spot if really pushed.

I think my mistake was that I explicitly told them not to call me again once I gave notice of termination. They still called me but I gave the guy short shrift. Maybe I shouldn't have? :D

They never contacted me with that offer, I saw it elsewhere, and it worked ok once I used the link in my final month of the contract. I didn't get an email to say it had worked but it did and my new bills are exactly 50% off
Fair enough - well done! :)

My contract was up at the end of November, so I called up at the start of the month to cancel. The rep was trying to make me an offer of something for 6 months and I just said I wasn't interested in any 6-month offer as I'd just end up having to phone again then. He didn't sound impressed so rapidly processed the cancellation, email came through and everything that day. I only say this thread after that and chanced my arm and completed that 50% off for 12 months form even though I'd already cancelled. Similarly, I never got a confirmation email but when the internet and TV kept working after the 30 days notice should have been over I assumed all was good. True enough, bill just came through today and the 50% off is there. Works out slightly cheaper than I was previously paying but a) saves the hassle of changing provider, and b) means I can stick with the older TV box which still allows me to record which is really what I was looking for.

AAM strikes again - thanks a million, folks!

Nice one. I'd still keep an eye on it to make sure they don't change it after 6 months though.

I hear the new virgin boxes can't record BBC or rte? Is that true?

I am now caring for my mother and I got access to her bank account, I have spotted Virgin Media are charging her €114 per month for broadband, home phone and TV.

I look forward to making a phone call to them this morning.

Anyone managed to keep sky costs down recently? I see i reached end of 12 month deal and not a word of warning but price has gone up - technically warned when signing contract but bad form for them not to flag price going up. It is handy to have the wifi TV box they provide but I wont be paying 2x for it.

Does the aforementioned Virgin Media strategy of cancelling and signing up as a new customer work with Sky (and others?) perhaps? Ridicluous palaver but sometimes the only way to get the best deal with the incumbent provider.
