Affordable housing Dunlaoghaire Rathdown-Parkview, Belarmine & Thornwood

When I was at my meeting, they had my number on each of the lists. The Dundrum list was my lowest but they had it scribbled out. I asked about it and thats when they said that there was nothing coming up and thats why I was called as part of the other list.

When was your meeting? I'm the same, was called in for Beacon from my spot on county council list. so really its going to be the people further down the Dundrum list who will end up getting Wyckham as those of us higher on the list will all have been offered something else in the mean time.

It was earlier this week. They also said that they expected Beacon to be available for viewing in the next couple of weeks. I still have to get AIP though so thats next for me to do.

I am my interview re the AF in BSQ tomorrow. Is there anything I should mention re market value etc during it? also does anyone know what they asre likely to ask?

From my experience it wasn't much of an interview, it was more of confirmation of details, savings. You then have to sign a form saying you understand clawback, and they explain the various charges and a bit about the apartment block. You'll probably be given the nice glossy brochure about BSQ (but actually doesn't mention much!). You'll be asked then to provide them with P21, Approval in Principal and a form signed by your employer - you don't bring these to the interview and hand them in later on.

Had the interview for BSQ... they said that there is social housing in the developement. two floor and the AF is above them.

Thanks for the update fairy. Dont suppose they mentioned anything about the market value or when they expected the viewings to be? I've tried contacting Sherry Fitz a couple of times but they say they've no idea when the viewings will be.

They said it'd be after Christmas at this stage. They said the market value will be decided at the time (they said the price will not change but the market value can).

They seem to keep changing their minds about the social housing thing in Beacon, or maybe it was always the plan nd now as it gets closed they need to start being honest?!

I know it very wierd. I wish we were all being told the same thing!

Welcome to the world of dealing with County Councils! Hopefully it will sort itself out in the new year! Im nearly afraid to book any holidays or anything in case they decide to have the viewings when Im out of the country!!

It does seem to be a different story each time you contact them!. I would expect to hear from Sherry Fitz first thing in the new year with hopefully the viewings the week after. Fingers crossed!

Has anyone looked at the affordable places in Parkview? Some people here were saying that they were really spacious - has anyone actually been in them? I took a walk around Parkview last night and saw the affordable section. It not only has a separate entrance, but it is a competely different development. The apartments are not the same as the private ones at all. Does anyone have any info on them?

I still thought they looked nice enough. One thing I noticed was a strange little high walled zig-zag lane going through the common area. I wouldn't like to have to walk through it for access as it looks like an area waiting for trouble. Don't know what it's actually for - anyone else know?

Market value shouldn't be the same as the private development because they are a completely different build. Look lower spec to me and segregated for affordable/social.

I could see the sign for the halting site but couldn't figure out where the entrance would be? Looks like it's a shared entrance with the affordable development - could be wrong but there is no other entrance in the wall.

Also, does anyone know what block the affordable units are in in Belarmine?

Thanks

I think it was a case that they can't get people who can afford Beacon so they have decided to offload it for social instead. I had my interview back in September and at the time they thought they would be done and dusted by Christmas, but people are still being called for interviews now!

I was told at my interview that there wouldn't be any social in Beacon but there would be in Parkview and Bellarmine. It's the kind of thing that the council should tell us though - I think it could have a big impact on the block, whatever about affordable housing but social housing could give the block a seriously bad rep... Any thoughts??

I'm in agreement, not meaning to cause offence, I know its a bit rich coming from aff housing people.

I would be curious to see if you didn't make a point of asking about social housing would the council tell you about it before you signed on the dotted line. It all seems a bit underhand if you ask me.

I was a bit unsure about Beacon due to rumours of tiny sizes, now this social housing revelation has really thrown a spanner in the works for me. I plan on selling on all going well within 5-6 years, and would not be hopeful of getting a good price, affordable housing will be phased out as peope move on, the social housing will be there for good. Its really making me second think the whole Beacon idea.

The way its shaping up is that there will be about 50/50 affordable vs social in BSQ unit 8.

There are 70 units in unit 8 for the council. The indications are that of the 64 2 bed units 34 were supposed to be social and the remainder affordable. There are 6 3-beds which in the main are intended to be sold under the affordable scheme. If the council cannot sell all the affordable units they will also be social.
I understand Landmark have also approached the council with a view to selling further units in addition to the 70 already sold.

The appartments are pretty small essentially they are 1 and a half beds. 1 real bed room and a 1/2 bed room.

Well thats interesting, its gone from two floors to basically fill the place if we can't get people to buy it under affordable. Interestingly if it is true that landmark would approach the council to offload more apartments (because they can't sell on the open market) these will be unit 7 since they already had to put them on hold due to the falling market. Better to make up a nice quota on affordable/social so that new apartments a couple of years down the line don't need to have any allocated.
I wouldn't be signing anything till I had in writing the exact allocation in the block.
Also note the entrance is round on the main block (letter boxes are there) - its not segregated like parkview.

Artois, this is great you got all that info and thanks for keeping us all informed, it's all a bit up in the air so. Its a good thing its not segregated like Parkview, the neighbours will be loving us!

So the more people who decide not to take Beacon for aff housing the more of it will go for social housing!
