Could you explain what this is?
In my local supermarket people are dropping the bottle return receipts,
Normally find one a month usually for 25 cent but have found a few with more then a couple of euros on them
It's not that I specifically go looking for them it's just that I notice these little things for some reason :)

Are you sure they are actually dropping them?

Do you notice the abandoned trolleys that still have the coin in them ?
I do and probably make a tenner a year.
My kids used to go looking and made a lot more.
Used to happen years ago but not so much now,
Do get offered a euro the odd time for my trolley but would feel guilty taking it as there's none in mine
but again do find receipts left in trolleys that have the €10 off €50 voucher

Would you be honest if you were offered 1 euro for your trolley and you only had a 20 c coin in it  ...

Shopping in Tesco makes me sad. I'm not sure why but it's just a depressing place to be.
27 different brands of strawberry yoghurt, but a limited choice of any other flavours....

I also dislike the music. They have cover versions of all the songs that have been produced to sound 99.99% identical to the original recordings, but that 0.01% drives me mad.

Ah, I should've known but I suppose I don't use many plastic bottles.

I'm always surprised at how many cans and bottles people have to return. My local Aldi has a handwritten sign warning that the machines cannot produce a receipt greater than €99. If they don't start a new transaction, they lose the deposits on any further bottles.

I worked in Quinnsworth in the early 80s as a shelf stocker/checkout bag packer/general dogsbody and they seemed to have The Specials "Ghost Town" playing on a loop. Seemed very apt for the times that were in it... Funnily enough, I really loved the job and we had some great craic especially during the after hours stocktaking (which paid overtime). :D

I don't agree with that at all.....I like shopping in Tesco...in fact it is my favorite place to shop..
I find the fruit and veg to be of a low quality and often rotten. They closed the butchers in the two near me. I'm not sure if that's been done everywhere. I much prefer Lidl, Dunnes or a good Supervalu (though many of those are dreadful as well.

True to a certain extent. Tesco in Carlow is very good, in my opinion, but in Tullow not so good. I find Dunnes in Wexford is good but in Carlow it is so big that you would need a sat nav to get around....and it is quite expensive and not so good...
There is no consistency ....

If you have a mixed fuel stove and sufficient storage space consider buying your smokeless ovoids by the tonne from NI.

There's a useful thread on Boards.ie called "Seems like a good deal on coal".

50 x 20kg bags are delivered to your address on a pallet and it works out at circa €10 per 20kg bag, depending on exchange rate.

Cheapest ovoids I could buy last winter were €13.50 per 20kg and that was buying in 200kg batches to avail of discount. Many people who are buying in small quantities (a bag or two) are paying between €15 and €18 per 20kgs.

My closest Tesco's are in Rathfarnham (really awful) and Nutgrove (not much better).

Hah, I'm actually fond of a bit of 'muzak' myself, at background volumes.

I'm generally ok with Tesco.
A lot of the Supervalus in Dublin, the aisles are too cramped (like Tesco Metro size).
Supervalu Sutton is grand though.

Tesco and Dunnes both guilty of the 'tyranny of choice'.... bewildering minor variations on the most popular flavour \ offering, instead of more actual flavour \ options.
