Key Post UK State Pension - Make voluntary contributions to qualify for UK pension on top of Irish pension

Ok quick update for me. Paid amount via revolut on 14th March 2025 and rang hmrc today. 50 min wait (I downloaded viber app and they have free call trial period) and got through to super helpful person. Anyway I'm all sorted and he confirmed payment received and that they would allocate it and update site. I said about I'm class 2 and website says class 3 but he said I confirm it's fine (I also have letter with it). Also I mentioned about future years and he said I would receive a letter each year with amount due.

Again huge thanks to @DannyBoyD and others on here.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank DannyBoyD for his commitment to this endeavour.
Thanks to all the information contained in this thread, I was able to buy back 16 years of contributions for myself and my wife. Paid in October confirmed over the phone in February and updated online in March.
Investment wise it doesn't get better than this as we were assessed as class 2.

For anyone thinking there's no time left do it today: get your paperwork, register online, confirm your identity and fill in a cf83 online to be within the deadline.

I would think that they would write letters out rather than phone, if they have to officially declare anything.
Such as HMRC having given misleading information about eligibility.

@DannyBoyD Hello to you and all on this latest thread. Can any of you tell me about actually making the payment please? I did the application and am now Class 2 but i simply cannot figure out how to properly pay the right way, online. it says about an 18 digit code but I see none on the letter i got from HMRC stating I'm Class 2 now and the breakdown of what to pay per year to date etc. How are people paying this, can you do it online for sure and if so, how and using what reference please? I read on HMRC website about using your NI number and surname etc but then it says for those living abroad temporarily! So am stuck at the last hurdle! Any step by step on making the payment online woudl be so welcome, thank you!

OMG!

See posts #3 and #4 in above thread.

From HMRC forum (on a different issue)

Once again thanks to all the stalwarts who tirelessly pushed us to help ourselves.

Requested my wife's UKNI number by letter, took about a month.
Signed her up on the app
Filled in CF83
CF83 Class 2 approved.
Paid by BOI before they could change their mind.
Looks like two whole pensions when we reach 67.

Take a bow team!

Thanks
Dingbat.

Hi all. Following the great advice here I went to Newry, got the NI number, completed the CF83, registered and posted it and it now shows as delivered on the A Post tracking app. Can I ask what is my next step or do I just wait for a response from HMRC. I am conscious of the April 5th deadline. Thanks.

just wait for a response from HMRC
This.

Do a screen shot / print out of the delivery record.

And you know what - belts & braces - do the call back form as well & keep a print out.

While you are waiting you can get yourself registered online, its a handy facility to have.

Hi, as I posted on another thread, I eventually got my NI number in yesterday’s post, I got confirmation that it was sent on 9/3/25. Taking advice from this forum, I sent off the cf83 form without the number with cover letter explaining situation and done a follow up call to say that the information was in the post to them and they confirmed all my details - I’ve five years at class 2. I’ve printed off the signed for delivery and the request for a callback. Now that I have my number, I went to verify my identification for the online gateway only to be met with the roadblock of passport is in my married name.

My query today is, should I follow it up with another phone call or sit/wait for a postal reply?

Two options:

1. Sit yourself down with snacks / crossword / knitting, phone & wait on hold for up to 50 mins. Go through the process to have your surname updated and give them your National Insurance number.

2. Wait till they get back to you.

I will also make a donation.

Slightly off topic, so apologies. This site is such a fantastic resource for people. I know it is essentially a volunteer organisation so nobody gets paid. But there must be significant IT costs/storage/webhosting etc associated with it. Who pays for this? I did look to see if there is a donate button but could not find one. Many people have benefited significantly from the advice received here and would be happy to donate/support.
