Key Post UK State Pension - Make voluntary contributions to qualify for UK pension on top of Irish pension

Just a quick update on timelines.

I sent my payment for past years in mid April. I didn't call them or anything. The online portal finally updated this week to reflect the payments. So by my rough calculations, it took 27 weeks from payment to online update.

Hey all,

I applied for a reissue of my national insurance number over 4 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. I worked in the UK in 2001. For anyone in the same boat that had to apply for their NI number, approximately how long did it take to come? I can't proceed with my pension application until I get it.

Thanks
I got mine 11 working days after I called them. They send it by 2nd class post and that can be quite slow. They got my address slightly wrong but the Eircode got it to me. I rang after about 10 calendar days and they said they would post a second letter. I haven’t seen that one yet.

There is no second class post to the ROI, it is Europe Zone 1 and all letters should be treated the same. If they didn't put a proper stamp on it then it is lucky that it came or that An Post weren't looking for more.

I am helping with a case where an Irish person was working in UK until July of a year.

Was seriously ill.

Resigned from job.

Drove home to Ireland in July of a year. (year = x)

Contract with UK employer was until end of August that year.

The person was on UK Incapacity Benefit for the next two years, while living in Ireland. (year = x+2)

When filling in the online application today, it asked: when did you leave the UK?

Should we enter the July of the first year, when she physically left the UK, and went to Ireland?

Or does the fact that she was in receipt of UK Incapacity Benefit while living in Ireland make a difference?

Yes. Thats what the question means

I strongly suspect they should not have been claiming this benefit if not resident.

However, I am not an expert in SW, so I would recommend getting advice on this.

Yes, that is what worries me.

Although she states that she was genuinely ill, and entitled to receive Incapacity Benefit.

A quick search on Google suggest that IB could have been paid abroad.

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, I was interested in buying back UK national insurance years for UK pension. I hoped to back years from 2006. I rang prsi records and was told that as I am paying prsi in Ireland that I could not pay national insurance for same years and get a Irish pension and UK pension for the same years, that I could only pay into one system for a pension for the relevant years. This would mean, as I am 54 it would be pointless me buying UK years when I need these years for my Irish contributory pension as I only have 9 years at minute. Anyone, any input on this.

I am just wondering if anyone can clarify if you can apply for the UK Pension if you worked in the Channel Islands only? It is part of the UK but I recently contacted a company in Ireland that looks after the process of applying for the UK Pension and was told I need to have worked in UK Mainland also! Any help would appreciated please as I am aware the deadline is approaching fast. TIA

Good afternoon everyone, I'm on the HMRC services looking for my NI contribution history but in order to access they are looking for UK passport, UK driver licence etc. Can anyone help? What did people do when they hit this obstacle?

What is the downside?
Struggling to find one. It might be a bit of a faff to get started, but set aside an hour on a Sunday afternoon & get it done.

If you qualify, do everything you can to make the contributions, if you don't you'd be leaving money on the table.
For me this is taking a lot longer than setting aside one hour on a Sunday. Is there any company that can do it?

There's a company online offering to help sort this out for me.
If you are finding the UK registration tricky, find a friend or relative to help. Or post here & we'll do our best to answer any questions.

If the website / registration defeats you, theres nothing wrong with doing it the old-fashioned way with an envelope and a stamp.

There's absolutely no need to pay anyone to do this.

I worked for less than 3 years, can I still apply?
The UK website says you must have lived in UK for 3 years & have been working before you left. Other posters were able to be accepted to pay Class 3 - see this AAM thread https://www.askaboutmoney.com/threads/credited-uk-ni-contributions-as-a-teenager-why.216240/post-1663150 (here).

It's worth the cost of a stamp to make a claim & see what comes back.
I have an envelope and a stamp so what do I put in the envelope? I am looking for my NI contributions? Online it gives you the option of 2 forms - E104 or S041?

You dont need a UK passport; start over.

The form you want to complete is the CF83. It can also be done online.

From this and your other posts, I'd recommend you start over and read the Key post.

I would recommend trying to set up by using a laptop rather than solely on your mobile. I found working on the pc made it easier to link my Irish passport. Does take a few go’s but stick at it.

My voluntary contribution to pay back is £824.20 every year from 2006 to 2024. There is a slight variation in this but not much. Did anyone else get that?
