A bit late with this, I know but the funniest comment I heard was on the radio, that taxi drivers in Galway did not take part in the stoppage so that they would "facilitate the Galway Races"
Meaning of course, they weren't going to lose out on what must be one of the most lucrative days for taxi-drivers in the year !!
...and a comprehensive Revenue audit for every taxi driver. I'll offer my services for free if they go on strike.More taxi strikes ?
If they still have to pay Dublin airport authority for picking up at the airport why should they not be allowed to charge a pick up fee?
Mr Churchill I thinkI think the taxi drivers are right to strike during the Ryder cup ... more people should boycott golf ... it's a good walk ruined!
Think you're ALL being mean to taxis/hackneys. My hubby was a hackney for about 5 years and YES the money was brilliant but, the expenditure was very high. Brakes pads every 6 weeks, new tyres every 4-5 months, base fee, fuel, insurance (was about £3500 at the time), no sick pay.... car accident and you can't work either, if some little upstart gets ill in the car, then you're off the road for the night, the list goes on and on.
The majority of the lads he worked with paid tax - they just had very good accountants, who managed to claim for everything going!!
