They get a long service increment every single year as soon as they hit the top of the scale?? I may be wrong, but that sounds very strange to me.
Not anything on the scale that Bankers paid themselves - Brian Goggin "earned " 3 million in 2008 , name me a Public Sector worker who earned a portion of that and you can rest assured that Bankers still rank amongst the highest earners in the State -no core pay cuts in the Banks indeed Bank of Ireland paid the first tranche of 3.5% under the National Wage Agreement towards 2016 and yes you are quite correct they did feed and fuel an unsustainable property boom and look at the country now !deiseblue - yes bankers and developes have caused the pain but they also fed and fuelled the boom. it was the money the banks printed and handed out freely that led to the huge pay rises the public sector received through bench marking. the banking sector is now retrenching , credit has pulled back so now public sector pay has to go back to where it came from.
yes tlc i never said the public sector caused these problems.
but
their crazy wage increases were given as the economy was booming etc and now they have to hand them back.
What extra do teachers get paid for supervising exams and correcting papers during the long holidays?
For State exams, approx. 200 for day 1 (the Tue before the exams start) plus 118 per day. Plus the usuual travel and subsistence expenses.
Do they still get days off in lieu for attending training and conferences during the long holidays?
Not sure about that.
How many "sick days" are they automatically entitled to?
How many permanent teaching staff each year are fired for poor performance?
None are fired, I'd say.
Some retire early under strand 1, 2 or 3. ("Mad", "bad" or "sad")
Why should they give them back when the bankers & government appointees including ministers are still walking around with their golden parachutes? Let it start with them!
tlc - i dont know if only one guard is doing this. my taxes pay his salary...
the guards are probably the worst in fairness
... hope they get hit hard in the budget
wretched people. totally useless individuals
Agree completely that government ministers, as well teachers, civil servants and those on welfare should be subject to an immediate pay cut of at least 20%, and for those in emloyment we must introduce theactive removal of poor performers without any golden parachute, and the elimination of all golden DB pension schemes.
Why not 30%?
or maybe 40%
some round number anyway....
`Protocol said "For State exams, [teachers get paid] approx. 200 for day 1 (the Tue before the exams start) plus 118 per day."
This is a disgrace - supervision for State exams, and correcting papers, should form part of a every teachers standard duties.
Its a real cheek for some one on a guaranteed pension, complete job security, and up to €60k per year to look for incremental payments for works carried out during the 12 week Summer holiday, when private sector workers struggle by with 20 – 25 leave days per annum.
Wrong - you'll have to push up that upper limit just a bit. Microsoft employers in Ireland are on 24 days, plus 1 day per year of service, up to a max of 5 service days, totalling 29 days. Like substantial parts of the private sector, they have had no salary cuts. They have had some job cuts, but this was really just taking advantage of the climate to cut some heads that they wanted to cut anyway.when private sector workers struggle by with 20 – 25 leave days per annum.

Bankers however get a maximum of 30 days annual leave and are a major contributor to the fact that we are running this deficit !Microsoft and other parts of the private sector aren't running a deficit of €400m a week.

The slight flaw in your logic is that the Irish public sector employees are generally living in Ireland, paying Irish house prices, Irish car prices, Irish grocery prices etc. The public sector rates in other countries are pretty irrelevant.you say that many people in the public sector do not earn massive money - thats correct but the public sector needs to be bench marked against the public sector in other comparable european countries, not against the private sectory
This is nonsense, and a recipe for disastrous public services. Why should private sector wages be higher than public? This drains the public sector of skilled staff. We need the ComReg guys to be a smart or smarter than the O2 guys and the BT guys. We need the Financial Regulator's staff to be as smart or smarter than the AIB staff and the BOI staff.wages in the private sector are supposed to be higher than the public sector, the perks in the private sector are supposed to be better than the public sector. the private sector should be the place of choice to work for irish people but its the opposite here, everyone wants a governement job.
people wanting to work in the private sector is what drives capitalism , the way we are going we may as well be a communist state.
people here seem to have a huge problem understand this fact. if people want to leave the private sector for a cushy job with a good pension in the public sector then they should have to take a massive pay cut
Perhaps you'd like to ask Beanpole why he brought up the comparison to private sector holiday entitlements then. I didn't bring up this issue - just pointed out the factual errors in Beanie's post.Microsoft and other parts of the private sector aren't running a deficit of €400m a week.
