I work for a multinational since 1977,started aged 20, and was not allowed join pension scheme until i reached 25 years,I have lost 5 years, but 15 years ago they allowed people join at 21 ,have I a case for discrimination?I will have to work for 42 years to retire at 62 whilst others need only work for 37 years?

Re: Not left join pension scheme

No chance, the pension scheme may change its Trust Deed and Rules with employer and trustee consent and such changes do not need to be backdated.

Companies ofter change pension funds to the disadvantage of employees ,look at the switches from defined benefit to defined contribution in big companies in recent years

This case is unusual in that the change is a change to benefit employees.

I am surprised in this case that existing employees were not given the option to buy back the missing years

Well it happened 15 years ago, DB pension schemes were in a much healthier state back then, such augmentations/amendments were not so unusual up to the mid 1990s.
