I've developed an Income Tax Refund Assessment Tool. Need feedback!

I think I should also add at this point. The goal of the refund assessment tool is to make the accountant's job easier.

On the development roadmap, I'm going add a feature that lists everything a user might need to use the tool (or file their return) eg. payslips, bank statements, medical bills etc.

There'd be no point in collecting all this info and doing the assessment only to have to repeat the whole process again later.

The user will be given the option to download a pdf printout of all the calculated figures (including formulae) to show their accountant or do their own return.

I might charge a small fee for this part...

As a Landlord I've a few tenants who qualify for rent tax credit, I've reminded them several times and each time they say the same vague response...yeah must get round to it.

This is literally free money, it doesn't get any freer and if I was them I'd have had it done 5 minutes after getting the keys.

My point is simple, you can lead a horse to water etc. ...a crueller version of myself might suggest that some people are just too stupid to be helped.

Revenue appear to be shutting down the Tax Refund Business model.

It appears they are making a change to no longer allow Tax Agents get refunded Tax and USC from 'PAYE Taxpayers' into their bank account. so, I assume it must now go to the taxpayers own bank account.

Revised Agent A2 process

Part 37-00-04b - Guidelines for Agents or Advisors acting on behalf of taxpayersPart 37-00-04b has been updated. After reviewing the A2 process, which allowed PAYE taxpayers to authorize refunds or repayments of PAYE/Universal Social Charge to be paid into their agent’s bank account, the following changes will be made:

  • New Clients: This facility will be withdrawn for any new clients who sign up with an agent starting from January 1, 2025.
  • Existing Clients: The facility will also be withdrawn for existing clients before December 31, 2025

Great news as many of the Tax Refund companies were taking advantage of their clients and people simply making enquiries. My partner for example only once made an enquiry to one of these companies but still they changed her details on myaccount to their bank details without her agreement. I was amazed that Revenue allowed this to happen. She did not contract them to do her tax returns.

She surely completed an agent link for PAYE ?

If not , I'd report that firm

The accountant needs a signed agent link from done in order to link themselves with someone for PAYE taxes
