I have a personal banking problem which has ran its course with the banks inhouse complaints procedure. I now want to go the legal route. How do I find a solicitor with expertise in this area?

If you got nowhere with the bank, the next and probably best course of call would be the banking ombudsman

To be honest, if they rule against you, you probably don't have a case no matter what you think, however if you post the details on here as well there are proabably plenty of banking experts who could give you a view

Yes , I would guess my next option would be the Financial Ombudsman , however , I feel that I am unable to properly present my case to him and would need professional help.
Basically it relates to a bank closing my account without notice , citing "irregularities in documentation" provided to another lending institution for a loan application. This is completely without foundation and they have failed to provide any evidence whatsoever of this. The loan was paid into my account and the account was closed some three weeks later. They sent the loan amount back to the lender , however I feel that I have been treated very unfairly.

Hi superdog

You do not need a lawyer to use the Financial Services Ombudsman.

They are guided by fairness, rather than by strict legalities.

They will look at your case and then get the views of the bank. There will be tooing and froing rather than the adversarial approach of the legal system.

Going to a solicitor will only involve you in costs which you cannot claim from the other side.

If you lack confidence in your writing or negotiating skills, then ask a friend of yours to draft it for you.

Thanks Brendan. Will talk to an accountant friend and see will she help lay out my case for the FO.
