Health Insurance Experience with Aviva's Level Health Insurance

If you're having a hard time comparing plans, I've found that giving ChatGPT a link to all of the plans and asking it to compare is really useful. Its given me a perfect breakdown comparison

Adding Everday Expenses adds €190 approx, per adult, for Plans B & C, its unavailable on Plan A, and non optionally included on Plan D.

If you are not a regular visitor to the doctor, most people would probably choose not to pay in advance, for something they may never use, bar perhaps annual checkups.

To be fair, the day to day option covers more that just GP visits.

Thats very true, albeit, the single most used “everyday” item, tbf adding the Everyday Option, does include a €100 p.a. for health screening as well.

The physio visits are useful too - any kind of injury typically needs 2-3 sessions at least so it would quickly almost cover it.
it's a hard call though unless you definitely know you will have multiple GP and/or a consultant visit in a year.

Some people will have at least a annual check up with a consultant for something so it's a no brainer to go for the add on then imo

Has anyone managed to actually speak to any of the team in Level Health by phone or received a callback or had an online message answered?

I had a callback this afternoon - I had a few queries about Plan D cover which were answered pretty comprehensively by a very helpful person.

One thing she confirmed for me was that all XRays, and any scans not done in an approved centre, only qualify for a €20 refund. I've done my sums now and Simply Connect Plus comes out marginally ahead for my usage. This is due to Level Health's higher plan cost, €125 excess on outpatient cover, and lower radiology fees.

I was tempted but I don't think I'll be moving this year.

Looking at Plan C and D; I think the Day-to-Day benefits aren't great at all. I am on Excel Care with Laya and Day-to-Day is a good bit better.

Just had another look and Simply Connect Plus is attractive too. I especially like the 50% refund of dental fees.
Its an absolute minefield and its more about value than price.

I agree - I think this is where the plans are lighter.
For me, a lot of health insurance is about covering the big things i would never be able to afford - large operations, major accidents a new chronic serious condition, cancer drugs etc. so I don't mind losing out on day to day cash back for cheaper premium, but for those with regular consultant visits etc coverage is not great at all - even on Plan D

Just thinking though - where else would you be getting an xray done potentially (that it's not covered)?

This sentence jumped out at me while reading up as must renew this week. Anyway I had SCP this year and was very disappointed with the dental bit, I had an expensive appointment earlier this year, they only cover something towards cleaning I think under routine and emergency.

Anyway I had to go to a dentist with a toothache, long story short, they referred me for a root canal to a different dentist for that, after the consultation it was agreed to monitor for 6mths before deciding. It cost me €150 for the appointment but Laya said none of that was covered under SCP as basically they didn't consider it routine and it wasn't emergency either.

That's all X-rays wherever they're done. The Beacon, for example, charge €130 of which Laya refund half.

As far as scans are concerned, I had a CT done privately in my local hospital much faster than the nearest approved centre would have done it. Laya refunded half of the €280. I confirmed today that plan D would pay only €20.

But would that not be often done either as an in-patient (and covered under in patient cover) or in beacon A&E (and covered under emergency dept in private hospitals cover)

CT scans are covered in full - direct pay - with level health Plan D in lots of places including Blackrock, Bons, Mater, Vincents private. That would cover a lot of people.

All the scans that I've ever had have been as a non emergency outpatient. Actually, on reflection, about half of them were via the public system where no insurance was needed at all...

There seems to be always something in the fine print somewhere that covers them not paying out. Thought it sounded too good to be true.

I see for orthopaedic procedures there's a €2,000 "co-payment". It's in their PDF "Specified Procedures list", so it's the same for all policies it seems.

That's pretty much a showstopper for me - I had a hip relacement this year and my Laya policy covered all of it.

Am I missing something here? I'm calling them now to clarify, and am in a queue for about 30 minues, still waiting.
