I also don't understand the fuss here when I saw the reports about this issue yesterday. How on earth is it a surprise or objectionable that a company's staff might be incentivised to retain customers?I don’t see how this is a bad thing
I do as well...as customer retention is the goal of any business. However, in a thread I posted about car insurance and a very high renewal v new business quote for the same policy, you seemed to think it was ok for that industry to penallise loyalty. How on earth is it a surprise or objectionable that a company's staff might be incentivised to retain customers?
Off topic and I never said that anyway. However, in a thread I posted about car insurance and a very high renewal v new business quote for the same policy, you seemed to think it was ok for that industry to penallise loyalty.

However, he refused to make an order in relation to the “two step approach” sought by ComReg.
Instead, he said he would order Virgin to amend its training manuals and provide appropriate training to its agents whereby they would cease “save activity” once customers make it clear that they are intent on cancelling.
Just write them a two-line letter and cancel the direct debit if you don’t want to be talked out of it. Or just call them up and say you’re emigrating and no longer need any broadband provider. They are making it difficult to leave.
write them a two-line letter
Every time that I cancelled (every year for the past few years)
What has the CRU got to do with Virgin Media or other telecoms/broadband providers?and one that the CRU (if it is minded to) and the judiciary must enforce
I think the purpose of this law is around deliberate hurdles like insisting people have to terminate by registered letter or return their equipment to a depot an hour’s drive away. What Virgin are doing is, well, disincentivising switching by offering a lower price which is very different!to ensure that conditions and procedures for contract termination do not act as a disincentive to a consumer changing service provider.

Thanks for the compliment but it wasn't obvious - especially since you also said this:The answer - as should have been obvious to a highly intelligent contributor like you - is that I confused ComReg with the CRU!
Hence my question.(I'm currently resisting attempts by my former energy supply company to keep me as a customer - but so far the 'sweeteners' offered aren't tempting enough!)

You can just email cancel@virginmedia.ieThe context is, there is no alternative method of cancelling, you have to call them
