Is it only gmail addresses?
As far as I know it (characters such as '.' and '+' not being significant and effectively being ignored) is not a feature of the standard that specifies the format of email addresses (IETF RFC 5322) so it depends on the specific email service whether or not they ignore certain characters. I'm only aware of Gmail taking this approach but maybe other widely used services do likewise? Is it only gmail addresses?

Having tested the waters for takers, AAM takes out a corporate subscription to say The Irish Times as outlined by @Howth Head above. Those interested, remit their share of the subscription fee, plus some over-head recovery, say 15%, to AAM. AAM in turn remits the corporate fee to The Irish Times, supplying the email addresses of the individual subscribers.
