I want to exchange Irish punts for Euro with Central Bank. Is there any need to worry, its a large amount. I have them for 20 years, and its savings of mine. I'm reading, Revenue and Gardai are informed. Maybe I'm being paranoid.

You're doing a cash transaction. The AML legislation is no different than if you were lodging cash at your bank. You'll have to provide ID, etc.
Do you have any notes in really good condition?

Applicants must complete both pages of the correct form, making sure to include:

  • The currency being submitted
  • Bank account details for reimbursement
  • In the case of submissions over €100, a photocopy of a valid form of photo ID (e.g. driver’s licence or passport). We retain the right to ask for ID and proof of address in all cases.

Why be paranoid or worried if you can show where the money came from? When you say "large amount", can we ask or be told what amount it is?

Call them up in advance to see what they'll expect.

Your definition of "large amount" may not be the same as theirs.

10K.
its cash savings, out of monthly income.
From 20 years ago, so ive records to show them.
