Cape Verde

Another bonus for Cape Verde...So have Hilton got it wrong aswell?

Hopefully, they will plough a bit of cash in to the roads!

Seems like a "management" deal to me where hilton doesnt own the land or build it, but manage their brand once its built. I would hazard that Vela Verde will sell it off plan, and build it with the funds from that, and then step out or have a cut of the hotel profits.

Fairly low risk strategy for hilton if I am right

WELL WELL WELL,
theres always negativity around, but i've never seen such negativity even in the face of such posative moves, such as the cv government, developers throughout the country, hotel chains, golf courses, tour opperaters, now i know non of use can tell the future but i'm sure these guys did there research,as there putting there money where there mouth is.yes there will be dificulties in getting there anitially,in fact its actually not that dificult at the moment,as the cv national airline is flying direct to standstead at the moment, how many of you fly there with an ongoing flight to some part of europe your trying to access??????

Just don't try and book on the TACV website:

"Currently under construction"

There's a promotional price for the STN-SAL route: £214 (STG).

A fair price to go an visit your property in the south atlantic?

I can go to Tenerife for €70 from Shannon including bags and taxes, what can I get to Cape Verde for?

Cape Verde, the unspoilt wilderness with a Hilton in the middle.

70 Euro is great, a neighbour paid 125 each for Lanzorote 16 dec to 28 dec rented an apart and watched the cloud /rain for most days, his kids said it was like being at home.

I was there in December for 2 weeks and the weather was fine, heard nobody on the plane home complain about it either.

Just compare the two forecasts:-

compared with tenerife:

Speaks for itself, me thinks !

Why does the forecast speak for itself? I was in Lanzarote, loved the weather and will be going back again next winter, and I am going to Tenerife soon and expect fine weather again.

Too hot is trouble too, sunburn, sunstroke, the kids can't hack it etc. etc.

The plane to lanzarote was full, the plane to Tenerife will be full, how many planes a week go to the canaries for this crap Irish weather? How many go to Cape Verde?

Depends on whether 25c average 12 months of the year is tolerable - with a breeze, I would say it will suit most people. Sufficiently cool in the evenings aswell, and is not a sticky type of heat.

As for planes going there, when the Islands are "match fit" so to speak ( say 3 years), I would suspect there will be many flights flying there throughout Europe. As a result flight prices will fall accordingly.

Most of the year people have a choice of where they go for their sun. People want different stuff. Feedback when I was in Lanzarote and asking a fella that owned an Irish pub was that Brits and Irish are going East for their summer holidays now, Bulgaria, Poland, Croatia, Turkey etc. etc. People just go to the Canary Islands for the winter sun. If prices to CV come down (and I doubt they will - because its long haul TBH) then people might overfly the Canary Islands in December and January when the weather is a bit iffy.

Lets face it, there is not much to do on either the Canary Islands or CV after you have been there a couple of times. Winter sun is the only edge that they have and thats only for a few months.

I think it's a case of establishing what is it that the majority of people are seeking when they go on a sun holiday. Imagine if this was a question on " family fortunes" I'd say it would go something like this:-

1) Sun
2) Sea ( to swim in/watersports )
3) Sand
4) Sex ( bars/clubs )
5) Sangria ( translates to bars )
6) Sightseeing
7) Seafood ( translates as restaurants )
8) Sport ( translates as activities- golf/casinos/quad-biking,etc)
9) Scenery
10) Solace ( translates as relaxation)

The 10 S's are/ will be covered in CV, apart from Sightseeing ( no museums/ historical buildings, etc).
What else do people want? Before statements of cleanliness, proper roads, sanitation, telecoms, etc are made - I'm talking about the future.
Ps CV will offer the above 365 days per year ! You can go swimming in the sea on Christmas day or the longest day - and the day/water temperatures will be pretty much the same.
PS Just thought of one more 'S' - Shops...Not too many of them about. But then, who thinks that's a good thing.Ha.
PPS One snag for those who don't like flying for more than 5 and half hrs. In this case there's always the some other S's....Scotland, Scandinavia, Spain...But not guaranteed SUN.

Not many resales though is there?

I see on that thread they seem to think the portugese market is the one to target, but does Portugal not have warm sunshine and beaches on its doorstep for about 7 or 8 months of the year?

Looks to me like CV might be attractive for about 3 months of the year if they can get the price of flights down, which will never happen, because its long haul, lang haul, long haul.

Regarding the 365 days of sunshine, the days are much longer in northern Europe during the summer so places like Bulgaria and Croatia are a more likely holiday destination.

It would appear that Cape Verde is classed as medium-haul (from Ireland), same as Bulgaria:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short-haul

Bulgaria's sun season is May-September ( 5 months ). The sea temperature does not rise above 17c on average in the other 7 months. In contrast, CV's offers all year round sun, with sea temps having a minimum of 20c in Feb and a max of 25c in August.

The canaries are very popular for holidaymakers in the summer months.
I'm sure many people will holiday throughout the year in CV also.
