Aviva says lowest car Insurance quote available is €280.

I think there is "step back" as well which can be combined with the protected NCD.
The reason I'd say go for both.

Absolutely select one of them.
Your posts suggest you can avail of more than 1 of the 3 options. Just clarifying that in my experience, that this does not appear to be the case. It would only let me select 1 of the 3 options.

How is there a €90 difference between the documents they sent me and the fee that comes up when you click on the renewal link?
This happened to Mrs C many years ago with 123 and when she queried it she was told that when they compile quotes it's in advance of the renewal date so they have to use the rates available on the day of compiling the quote, but as most people only renew closer to renewal those rates might have changed

Sorry for any confusion but I'd have thought it was clear what I meant when I said

;)

Got my renewal notice from Chill, €505 with Footprint. My current insurer, AIG, is €523.

When I open the renewal documentation that they sent me, the premium AIG is €433!! How is there a €90 difference between the documents they sent me and the fee that comes up when you click on the renewal link?

Of course, despite Chill bombarding me with emails and texts to renew, the only way I can contact them is to phone them.
The difference is because of their €90 broker fee.

I always thought that these models were based on volume and commission from the provider? Now I can just go direct and avoid the broker fee

I'm still confused? Cervelo, are you saying that I should opt for both options? What's the point is my point.

Your actual premium is €252 but you're going to pay €310 which means you've €58 for extras
So pick the Protected NCB with stepback rather then just protected NCB
Post #177 explains the difference in the 3 options

Mrs C just got her renewal quote and there's a change in how it is presented to her compared to last year

Save up to 10% when you renew online*

Based on the information we have, the cost of renewing your car insurance is as follows:
Renew Online
Single payment
€321.35
Call to Renew
Single payment
€357.05

Seems like their trying to infer that if you call you'll be paying more, wonder how many people will fall for this tactic

Isn't this exactly what they're clearly stating and not implying?
  • Renew online: €321.35
  • Renew by calling: €357.05

But If I ring them, I'm sure I'll end up with a cheaper quote, so is it inferring or implying??
Or both??

Huh?

€357.35 (by phone) > €321.35 (online)?

How do you figure that renewing by phone might be cheaper?

Aviva are inferring that if I call to renew it will cost me more than the online quote that they have provided
but based on my experience since this thread started and all my posts about renewing, I've found the opposite
Maybe this year will be different, we'll have to wait and see

Mr Clubman do you, when renewing your insurance not call them to see if they can offer a better deal??
My past experience is that the sales person you talk to has a discretionary discount that they can offer you
but this is not always proffered

They're not "inferring" (I still think that you mean "implying") that - they're staying it clearly.

No, I usually get a cheaper quote, and one that's as close to the insurer's minimum quote that's it's but work haggling further, by simply shopping around online. It's years since I bothered to phone anybody.

Has your wife phoned them to see if she can get a cheaper premium over the phone than the online one?

She will in due time!!

Anything to say about my above post???
No, I mean inferring,
but I'll agree to disagree with you unless somebody else wants to way in on whether it's infer or imply
Imply vs Infer
The verb infer commonly means “to guess or use reasoning to come to a conclusion based on what has been suggested.”
Why would the insurer be guessing about something that they themselves are saying?

You only quoted the "Infer" part of that paragraph, here it is in full
The verb imply means “to indicate or suggest something without actually stating it.”
The verb infer commonly means “to guess or use reasoning to come to a conclusion based on what has been suggested.”

Aviva have in the quote "suggested" not "guessing" that the renewal price will be dearer if I call to renew
So in my mind they are inferring and not implying

Yes it's a fine line and I could have used the word imply but I chose infer
but at the end of the day it's just semantics ;)
