Aviva says lowest car Insurance quote available is €280.

It maybe a cool, wet and miserable day outside but I'm smiling from ear to ear as I've just gotten my car insurance renewal
And finally after only nine years with Aviva I've hit the holy grail of renewals "The minimum premium" of €310
No twenty minute phone call just pay up and enjoy another year of good value motor insurance :)

Although I said "no twenty minute phone call" I decided to just check if I could improve on my renewal quote by doing a new customer online quote and guess what, yes I could :)
So yesterday gave them a call (24 minutes) and renewed as a new customer but also in addition to protected NCD I also now have reduced my excess from €300 to €125 added stepback NCD and also personal accident benefit
Total value of the additions came to €48.63 and there still is a minimum premium charge been added of €20.83 to bring the policy up to the €310

As we've said before in this thread I've done this so as when next years renewal comes in and if by chance I can't get it down to the minimum premium I can remove some or all of the additions to help lower the premium

Just got the lowest car insurance quote in my life - driving 39 years

Fully comp €297.30 with AIG (includes extra 10% Golf GUI card discount). Wife as named driver and 3 penalty points in license. Otherwise perfect record and boring safe volvo :D

Fully comp €297.30
That's good. I get the lowest with Aviva €310. I tried to get a quote with AIG online but after inputting all my info I got a message to say they couldn't quote?
I get free travel insurance with Aviva because I also have my home insurance with them, probably worth a few quid.

Many thanks for the tip. Like you, I was happy to receive the €310 Aviva renewal quote.

But I followed your example and have ended up with the same outcome. Happy days!

i don't care what insurers claim about windscreen claims, but since i had to make one (thanks Kia for more shoddy works) my premium has increased from the min of 280 4 years ago to ~500 this year. No other claims. Car is now 5 years old.

Well I've made two in the past, most recently in 2019 with Aviva and never noticed an increase in my premiums due to the claim
Yes the claim is mentioned in my NCD but it hasn't affected it either and nor is it an issue when looking for quotes from other insurers

I also saw there is a new insurer to the market OUTsurance. But i couldnt get their site to quote me.
You have to stay with OUTsurance for 3 years claim free before you get your 10% refund. Even if they were competitive in year 1, that does not necessarily mean they would be competitive in year 2 & 3. I get close to minimum premiums with other insurers, so can’t see OUTsurance benefitting me, it will be interesting to see if others can benefit.

And talking of windscreens, your 10% refund is not affected by windscreen repairs with OUTsurance, but you lose it if you make a windscreen replacement claim at any stage in your 3 year cycle.

just to update a little. I was still checking around for quotes. Its4women gave me a quote of 316EUR (fully comp, NCD, 300 excess).....which is the lowest i've gotten since before my windscreen decided to implode.

I got my lowest quote in 2021 of €280, still the same car, drivers and conditions but I am hovering at €600 for the cheapest quote, asked a broker and they could only get €640. If I remove my adult child it drops to €400 but kid is getting older each year should be getting cheaper if anything. It has increased by €100 in a year and I did not shop around last year, so I was figuring this years quote was building on my inaction last year.

I thought car insurance should be getting cheaper.

I got my car insurance renewal from Aviva for €365 for next year. As per usual I got an online quote for insurance as a new customer and it was €310. I added in extras at the end of.....Protected No Claims discount, reduced excess from €300 to €150 and Journey Wise thrown in....and the premium had increase to €311.

Now the trick is to transfer my certificate of no claims bonus from my last policy to my new policy. Never an easy job.

You mean starting a new policy with Aviva rather than renewing your old one because the former is cheaper?
I've done this with a couple of insurers in the past (most recently AIG) and didn't have any problems.
Don't most insurers let you upload the no claims cert to the relevant policy using an online portal these days?

My wife got her renewal from Aviva at €310. However the actual cost of her car insurance from them is €252 but because they have a minimum charge of €310 she cannot avail of the lower cost. Even with Protected NCD and reduced excess included in the €310.

Is there anything else besides JourneyWise accident cover that she can add in to her policy from Aviva?

or

Are there other Insurance companies out there that do not have a minimum charge?

I think there is "step back" as well which can be combined with the protected NCD
If you give Aviva a call they might have other options available but think that's it
As regard pricing, I think most insurers have a minimum pricing policy and where you might get a policy for slightly cheaper,
Will it be a better policy and will they offer loyalty discounts on house insurance and free travel insurance

Is the protected NCD not better than the step back? In other words if you have a crash would you not be calling on the protected NCD and not calling on the step back?

Can you have both and is there any point in having both?

From Aviva's website
We at Aviva offer 3 types of optional NCD protection:

Step back No Claims Discount
If you make a single claim or one arises against you during any period of insurance, we will reduce your No Claims Discount in the following intervals:
- A 50% discount is reduced to 20%,
- A 40% discount is reduced to 10%,
- A 30% or less discount is reduced to 0%.
Protected No Claims Discount
With this kind of protection, you may make up to two unlimited claims in a three-year period without losing your No Claims Discount claims for window breakage, or up to two fire or theft claims will not be considered as a claim for this purpose.
Protected No Claims Discount with Step back
This type of protection is a combination of those outlined above. It allows you to make up to two unlimited claims in a three-year period without losing your No Claims Discount. We will not take account of claims for windscreen breakage or fire or theft for the purposes of this endorsement. For subsequent claims, no-claim discount step-back applies.

The reason I'd say go for both. is if you can get it in under the minimum premium or close to, so that if next year or the year after your premium goes up you can remove/change this or journey wise to reduced the premium back to hopefully minimum

Got my renewal notice from Chill, €505 with Footprint. My current insurer, AIG, is €523.

When I open the renewal documentation that they sent me, the premium AIG is €433!! How is there a €90 difference between the documents they sent me and the fee that comes up when you click on the renewal link?

Of course, despite Chill bombarding me with emails and texts to renew, the only way I can contact them is to phone them.
