Any reason to NOT opt in to 'smart meter services' ..?

How do you download a month's data? Whenever I login to ESB Networks, I'm only offered a 7 days' HDF file. Can these be combined?
On the download screen, check the 'Calculated kWh' option to allow you download the full range of data.

Smart meter caution!
I have a new smart meter installed, but I am still on an old day night rate.
It's time I renewed my electricity supplier contract, so I went to Switcher to find my best rate. I WAS SHOCKED WITH WHAT I FOUND!
I priced both a standard (day-night) plan and a smart meter plan. I found that the BEST smart meter plan was going to cost me a THOUSAND EURO more than the standard plan with most of the suppliers!
So I phoned Energia and signed up for a standard plan, and saved myself a grand!
But what really got my goat was the fact that once somebody signs up for a smart meter plan, you cannot go back to a standard plan. All the smart metre plans seem to cost about a grand more per annum, but once you sign up for them, you cannot go back!
Does anybody know anyone working in consumer protection!!

If you weren't already aware of it energypal.ie is an independent third party site that is excellent for surveying the smart electricity plans available on the market:

Hello ClubMan....

I'm unclear as to why you quote my post above?

The huge increases in standing charges can be seen here......

While increasing gas and electric prices could be attributed to the rising costs of same, there was no justification for the above.

Where? I didn't quote any post of yours. What you quoted from my post above is a link to another post of mine in another thread. I think that you must be confused about something here.

I sure am!
When I look at post 24 above, I see a heading 'Time to move to a SMART plan?' and underneath my post starting 'Well I'll start so.......

Click the link, it points to ClubMan's own post, not sure why but the text being quoted above is from your first post on that page, but that's looks to be an XenForo issue.

I posted a link to my own post in that thread. I didn't quote you. I have no control over how Askaboutmoney/XenForo displays such links.

I'm currently trying to move Electric account over to Electric Ireland. I gave them my MPRN online and they said I can have smart or non smart plans which is fine. I want to stay on non smart plans but after I picked a non smart plan they then ask me to "enable smart features".
Will this now switch me to a smart plan or is it just for them to get my data - 30 minutes etc. I have no problem with that but definately don't want to go on an actual smart plan/tariff.

Ask them if this changes your meter from MCC01 (24 hour flat rate) or MCC02 (day/night "Nightsaver") to MCC012 or MCC16 (smart tariffs).
FWIW my smart meter is still on MCC02 but 30 minute meter readings are available to me via the ESB Networks My Smart Data site.

Yes I honestly think it's just so I can get insights etc. to what I would be using and it would in no way put me on a smart plan/tariff but thought I'd post here in case someone else had switched online recently with Electric Ireland and although having a smart meter wanted to still stay off a smart plan.

Just to clarify - I did not "enable smart features" on my meter and I am still on MCC02/Nightsaver but can still get 30 minute readings via My Smart Data. At this stage I still don't understand what exactly "enable smart features" means because the CRU and providers have made such a mess of explaining all of the issues pertaining to smart meters to consumers and have made it so confusing. If you don't want to be restricted to smart tariffs only then you need to ensure that your MCC doesn't change from MCC01/02 as far as I know.

Yes "enable smart features" could mean different things to different providers. I now hate even more my personal annual review off providers tariffs etc. trying to get better value.

FWIW - (as far as I understand it) if you want to stay on a "regular/legacy" tariff (24 hour flat rate or day/night Nightsaver) then just clarify with them that whatever they do they will not change your MCC from MCC01/02. (And/or charlfy with them what they understand the implications of changing to MCC12/16 to be). If/when you decide to start using a smart tariff then use energypal.ie to shop around - particularly when you have a few months to a year or more of smart data collected.

I signed up for a standard plan with Yuno last year.
I've just discovered (thanks to ESB Networks and a failed switch) that Yuno switched my ESB Networks tariff from MCC01 to MCC012
Yuno said it is required for smart services and are refusing to change it back or remove smart services from my account.
So I can only switch to smart plans now.

So I'd decline that option if i were you.

Despite ESB Networks telling me that suppliers can request tariff changes and do it all the time it has been very frustrating dealing with Yuno on this as I didn't knowingly opt in to the tariff change

Same thing happened when I moved to Yuno. But it is less of an issue nowadays, you can get a 24 hour rate on a smart meter from electric Ireland which is about 25c on their dual fuel offer. It goes down to 23.82 next month so it’s a competitive offer.

It is an issue unfortunately for dual fuel plans as the gas offers with smart plans are 10% higher than the Energia standard plan.
