How was Mars for the last two years ?Smart meter caution!
I have a new smart meter installed, but I am still on an old day night rate.
It's time I renewed my electricity supplier contract, so I went to Switcher to find my best rate. I WAS SHOCKED WITH WHAT I FOUND!
I priced both a standard (day-night) plan and a smart meter plan. I found that the BEST smart meter plan was going to cost me a THOUSAND EURO more than the standard plan with most of the suppliers!
So I phoned Energia and signed up for a standard plan, and saved myself a grand!
But what really got my goat was the fact that once somebody signs up for a smart meter plan, you cannot go back to a standard plan. All the smart metre plans seem to cost about a grand more per annum, but once you sign up for them, you cannot go back!
Does anybody know anyone working in consumer protection!!

Ideally at least one year of data is best since it will reflect seasonal usage fluctuations. No bother. Once you have a month or so of data you will see a clear trend of usage.
Hello ClubMan....Time to move to a SMART plan?
Well I'll start so! When all the charges escalated a few years ago, the suppliers used the confusion to seriously jack up the standing charges. There was no justification for this and yet the Gov/Regulator made no attempt to intervene. This of course had a disproportional effect on low usage...www.askaboutmoney.com

I'm unclear as to why you quote my post above?

Click the link, it points to ClubMan's own post, not sure why but the text being quoted above is from your first post on that page, but that's looks to be an XenForo issue.I sure am!
When I look at post 24 above, I see a heading 'Time to move to a SMART plan?' and underneath my post starting 'Well I'll start so.......
I posted a link to my own post in that thread. I didn't quote you. I have no control over how Askaboutmoney/XenForo displays such links.I sure am!

Ask them if this changes your meter from MCC01 (24 hour flat rate) or MCC02 (day/night "Nightsaver") to MCC012 or MCC16 (smart tariffs).after I picked a non smart plan they then ask me to "enable smart features".
Just to clarify - I did not "enable smart features" on my meter and I am still on MCC02/Nightsaver but can still get 30 minute readings via My Smart Data. At this stage I still don't understand what exactly "enable smart features" means because the CRU and providers have made such a mess of explaining all of the issues pertaining to smart meters to consumers and have made it so confusing. If you don't want to be restricted to smart tariffs only then you need to ensure that your MCC doesn't change from MCC01/02 as far as I know.Yes I honestly think it's just so I can get insights etc.
FWIW - (as far as I understand it) if you want to stay on a "regular/legacy" tariff (24 hour flat rate or day/night Nightsaver) then just clarify with them that whatever they do they will not change your MCC from MCC01/02. (And/or charlfy with them what they understand the implications of changing to MCC12/16 to be). If/when you decide to start using a smart tariff then use energypal.ie to shop around - particularly when you have a few months to a year or more of smart data collected.Yes "enable smart features" could mean different things to different providers. I now hate even more my personal annual review off providers tariffs etc. trying to get better value.
