After changing to a smart meter, I've got a huge bill.

Thanks for that.
My supplier is Energia. The bill included the old and the new meter readings.
For reference, during the same period last year (April 18, 2023, to June 18, 2023), we consumed 512 kWh during the day. This year, they are charging us 18,523 kWh for the same period (16,157 kWh with the old meter and 2,366 kWh with the new one). The night usage is similar: in 2023, we consumed 335 kWh, while in the same period in 2024, they charged us for 358 kWh.
The outstanding fee after two reductions is about 4,000€.
I can't open a complaint with CRU because they need a complaint number from Energia, which is what I am doing. I've contacted also ESB, which said to contact Energia and ask them to contact them and request a picture of the reading of the old meter when they changed it and a test of the new smart meter.
I have notified Energia, now waiting for them.

Who's your electricity supplier?

I had a similar problem with Electric Ireland where I submitted a meter reading via ESB Networks website but mistakenly I took the reading from the meter next to mine -- duh.

So I got a bill for around €12,000 when the bill should have been around €150 to €200

I immediately called Electric Ireland but their service was a disaster,
-they said they'd put the DD on hold until it was sorted, 2 weeks later they try and payment for the 5 figure sum
-they said send us a photo of the meter reading--- did that, weeks passed nothing happened called them, they say photo needs to have dated receipt/newspaper heading:rolleyes:
-they said the reading was a network reading so couldn't be wrong, I say it was me that submitted the reading incorrectly...no reply:rolleyes:
-I send in written formal complaint -- no effect
-send another written formal complaint -- no effect

Finally I complain to CRU... a nice lady from Electric Ireland contacts me and problem is solved within 7 days
Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. Did you have a Complaint number from your energy supplier in order to open a complaint with CRU? If not, how did you open the complaint with CRU?
