Affordable Housing-Process/Plans Cork County

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

hey dylanjohn sorry took so long to reply had no access to internet. interview went fine if you could call it that, was more of a chat and an explanation of how the clawback works, also just to verify all details sent in already were correct. they asked if i had any questions which i had hundreds of but could not think of any on the day as i was a bit stressed out over the thing for few days previously. have not heard from them since but they did say i should hear from them within a month.
Hi Jasonia,

Was your interview for Ballincollig?
Has anybody heard of any1 that had an interview for Douglas?

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Jasonia's interview was for Douglas! Interviews for Ballincollig started about 2 weeks ago and they are on-going.

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Hi Jasonia,

Thanks for getting back to me, I have my interview tomorrow and I have to say Im kinda nervous myself. And if they ask if I have any questions, the only one I want to ask is will I be getting a house or not!!! I was told we might be given some indication of what are chances are at the interview. Is this incorrect?? I was really hoping that Id know more by tomorrow.

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Hi Dylanjohn,

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning who got affordable housing about a 11/2 ago and I was asking her what the interview was about. She said it was more like a chat they went through her application with her to make sure everything was correct. She was given an indication on the day that she would prob get one but she said there wasn't that many on the list fo area she got so they were able to more or less tell her where she stood. There are so many in for Ballincollig we prob wont be given as much info. Oh yea and she had heard it 2 about Greenfields being a ghetto! are you nervous I still haven't heard anything?

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Hi Suzy,

Ya, a bit nervous alright, but sure Iv been waiting so long Im almost half looking forward to it!! Your right, because there are so many on the list they might be slow in tellin us, but surely they have some idea. They have to!! I was talking to a few people about Greenfields as well, and I reckon a lot of people got their opinions from what they heard on the radio. Its not fair that people are giving this estate a reputation before the tenants have even moved in!! If I get the opportunity to buy there Ill still jump at it. I really like the houses and the area, and Im not gonna leave others cloud my judgement. As it stands, there is still a chance I wont get offered anything!! A lot of people have said to me that they would actually prefer it to Highfields as its more private, and its smaller. And that Highfields has as much a chance as being rough, if not more so than Greenfields as it is so much bigger. I just really really hope Ill get one!

I suppose we just have to keep an open mind bout Greenfields I'd say I'm going to ring them 2day to find out what the story is I'm just trying to built up the courage. I'd say your in with a good chance to get one to be honest. I wonder is it going to be the same as the Douglas interviews and we then would have to wait a further month to know where we stand?

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Id say so, and I also think a month is a bit optimistic when it somes to the council. I dont know how Ill be able to wait much longer to be honest. Sometimes I do feel like im in with a good chance, other times not so sure. Depends on my mood. And your obviously in with as much a chance as what I am as we are on the same points. You should ring I think, your head will only be more wrecked if you dont.

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

I going to ring today alright I'll have myself driven mad otherwise. My friend said that the last ones that were given out in Ballincollig went to a lottery there was so many in for them. Lets hope they don't do that this time.

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

I dont think thats correct, the last ones given in Ballincollig were 6 in An Caislean last year, and there was 280 in for them. My friend was lucky enough to get one, and I dont think there was any thing about a lottery mentioned. She was called for her interview, and was told it looked likely she would get one as she was at the top of their list, and her affordabilty was ok. If you decide to ring them let me know what they say to you, but I imagine your interview will be very soon.

Maybe you should ring them and ask them if you are high up on the points? Did they ask you to get approval in principle?

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

m in for douglas Got call today to go in to county hall for interview next week.. told it was just to explain the clawback etc.... anyone else get a call?

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

how did your interview go dylanjohn? you get any more info from them regards when they might be actually making allocations.

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

New to this.

Didn't know about the point system, thanks! Have to find out my points. According to the County I am not eligable for shared ownership because that is stricter than what the bank can offer you. So if the banks can't give me enough I am out of the running and have to go for council housing. That's what they told me anyway.
Can anyone advise me what to do about my car loan? Cashing it out would more than half my savings and as I understand savings is vital in the assessment, what should I do? On the other hands the bank will give me a bigger mortage which I need. Any advice?

Hi Jasonia,
The interview went ok. A little disappointed with the lack of info they provided really. Was hoping to find out what my chances were, but I was given no indication whatsoever. But I was told if I havent heard back from them by the end of October I should get back onto them as they are hoping to make allocation over the next few weeks, but they have to get through the interviews first. And if they say 4/5 weeks, realistically that could be another couple of months at least!

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

Hi Dylanjohn,

Have you heard of anyone else getting called for interviews in Ballincollig?
I'm still waiting patiently.

Hi Suzy,
To be honest, I thought you have heard by now. I was talking to 2 people on the list who have 150 points and that have been called in for interview for this week. You got 155 didnt you?

Yea when I was onto to her last week she said I'd be hearing within the next two weeks from them to come in and I am not going ringing again she'd loose it with me. Do you know when their interviews are this week? Oh I'm getting worried now!

Re: Affordable Housing- Cork County

I think 1 of them have it today, and 1 girl has it Friday. And theres no real point in ringing them again in case it does annoy them, all you can do at this stage is wait. Id say you'll get a phone call for sure this week, to come in for next week. I can only imagine how anxious you are feeling though, Id be the very same!
