‘Cuckoo’ council swoops in to buy new homes it rejected for planning permission
The Eurasian hoopoe, which is causing such excitement amongst birdwatchers, has been spotted several times around picturesque Bearna in Connemara.

Now the county council is buying up all 40 homes at Trusky West in Bearna, about 500 metres from the centre of the village and the local pier.
The development, which is under construction, is made up of a mix of three- and four-bedroom semi-detached and terraced houses, and one and two bed apartments.
This development limits the general public’s ability to purchase homes
No prices are available, but locals estimate such properties could fetch up to €500,000 on the open market.
