Hi,

My sister gave (sold) me her ipod which was originally set up on an Apple Mac operating system. I used to have an ipod and my computer which used used Microsoft Windows. I tried to upload songs from my pc to the ipod but I couldn't because the ipod was set up originally to work on a Apple Mac. To get around this problem I selected the "restore factory settings button" on Itunes in order that the ipod would be wiped clean and so that I could begin again as if the ipod had just been purchased as new. This appeared to work, in that it cleared all of the music that was stored on the Ipod but unfortunately it did not complete the process and as a result I was unable to upload any music to the ipod. The ipod is now "dead", as in nothing happens on it at all.

How can I get the ipod working again???

Is there a shop I can call into in Dublin to get it fixed??

Cheers

not an expert on ipods; but is the issue you're getting because it was already registered by your sister?

Depends on the iPod. [broken link removed]

This didn't work on my nieces iPod which was a 4th gen. Based on info on the web I opened it up, disconnected the battery for 5 mins then reconnected it. Then reset and restore in iTunes that fixed it. Seems to be a bit of techno Voodoo in fixing iPods.

Hi,

My sister gave (sold) me her ipod which was originally set up on an Apple Mac operating system. I used to have an ipod and my computer which used used Microsoft Windows.

It's a reformat that's needed and should be simple enough.

Try this first:

1. Connect iPod to windows pc - from what you've said the ipod is recognised, but you're unable to load songs. So the pc should pick up the ipod as a device.

2. An ipod management screen should come up, somewhere (about half way down) should be an option to restore. It says something like "If you're experiencing problems with your iPod, click to restore". Click it.

3. You'll then be asked several times if you're really, really, really sure you really want to restore. Just go for it.

4. Should then have a progress bar

5. You can resync with the pc.

If it isn't showing up in windows when you connect, then there may be more to it. Check it again on your sister's Mac if possible, if it doesn't show on your PC.
