Re: Girona and it's environs
Hi All,
I'm just back from a 10 day fly-drive holiday with my partner. We picked up and dropped the car back to Girona airport.
If you aren't into beach holidays then Cadaques is still pretty enough for a day trip, but the drive to it is along narrow roads on the Creus peninsula. We didn't find too many good restaurants there and we found some particularly expensive and poor quality restaurants on the waterfront. One called Gritti's was particularly poor. We didn't like Cadaques, so we got out quickly.
We didn't venture to other spots on the Costa Brava as it wasn't our thing.
The walled medieval towns such as Besalu, Solsona, and Cardona are worth a visit. We stayed two pleasant nights in Cardona.
Perpignan is only 1 hour from Girona, and we headed inland from there to some interesting towns in the foothills of the French Pyrenees.
From a few fly drive holidays to Spain, I would pick the north west and Basque country to travel to.
If you're single then bar hopping and tapas eating in the likes of Santander, Bilbao and San Sebastian would be recommended. Absolutely fab food and drink in the port side bodegas of Santander. Great fun places too particularly if you have a bit of spanish.
Our favourite region though was Asturias....
