Just wondering what happens to his seat, can you of his children claim this,as I think happened with Brian Cowan when his Dad passed away.

We're still waiting on the calling of a by-election to fill the seat, when the likely candidates will be announced. There's also a vacancy in Dublin Central, following the death of Tony Gregory.

I'd say the government will delay calling these as long as possible, as they'd likely lose Seamus Brennan's seat and wouldn't get Tony Gregory's.

I read yesterday that Seamus Brennan's daughter is going to be the FF candidate for the by-election.

Nobody can "claim" the seat, this is not a monarchy. There will be an election and the people will elect a new TD.

his son pulled out of running for the election as he currently works for Anglo...

much as i have always despised FF i always admired Brennan.

In always liked and admired him as well. He is a great loss to Irish politics.

I've never heard of anyone disliking him - unsurprisingly.

Also unsurprising was IMO FF's shameless, cynical using of the man - the 'dacent' face of FF - whenever there was a potentially incendiary mix of panellists on Q&A for example, or if big time appeasement was needed - wheel on Seamus.

It could also be said that they utilised his talent and skill in situations that required such.

I agree, I'm not trying to imply he was mere nice guy but talentless stooge, but I've just seen situations in the past (can't recall specifics at the moment) where another minister would have far more appropriate background /experience but they pushed Seamus to the front as a defuser: "But sure they like you"

Just sneaky and cynical IMO - there was more to the man than charm and diplomacy.

I know what you meant, I was brushing up on my spin skills

No - she's going to run for the local election for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in the Dundrum ward, but not for the Dail.
