Have traffic levels declined in Dublin?

The argument over traffic levels chez moi is over now when I finally caught up with some old newspapers- see http://www.tribune.ie/article/2009/mar/15/traffic-levels-fall-by-almost-3-in-dublin/ The city centre drop of a million journeys certainly ties in with my experience of an emptying evening Pearse Street. The Dublin city council rep quoted seems to think that it is to early to draw conclusions as to the cause of the drop in traffic levels??

Yup, traffic is down pretty much across the board in the city centre my contacts inform me. Commercial traffic in particular taking a clobbering around the docklands area. East link traffic down also.

Not materially so, IMHO.

I cross the Eastlink at rushhour, heading north, and the traffic volume are much as they were last year, and 5 years ago.

If I were Traffic Czar of Dublin for a day, that fceking roundabout in front of the Point would be gone !

Artane Roundabout first!

Could be due to the decline in construction activity. Rush hour traffic was often delayed by JCBs, cranes, cement mixers, road rollers, dump trucks, articulated lorries with concrete beams etc. which move a lot slower than normal traffic. I'm amazed that it is even permitted to drive this stuff in rush hour traffic - should be banned at certain times.
