I can't believe what plumbers charge!!!

There is very little work involved in servicing a boiler. The cover is taken off the front, the interior of the boiler (Heat exchanger etc. is given a bit of a dusting and checked visually for leaks or any damage. Thats it!

Form this comment I can only hopefully assume you are not a gas appliance service person. If this is what your serviceperson does, change them quick.

So €53 for a 10 minute job? This works out at about €300 per hour:eek:.
G.P.'s don't earn that much

Not quite a GP will have a queue of people waiting to be done (I used that word with malice) and it takes time for a plumber to get to a customer.

The GP will be paying rent (or a mortgage), a receptionist, medical insurance of over €100 a week, an accountant and possibly a nurse and practice manager. I'm not saying they are badly paid, they are not, but it's not all personal income.
The plumber will also have overheads but far fewer.

BTW, I can't understand why people will complain about their GP and how much they charge and yet keep going to them. They are just another service provider so if you think you are not getting value for money then move to another one.

Not quite, the plumber has to get into his van, drive to the job, unload whatever tools he needs, do the job, pack away the gear, then drive god knows what distance to the next job. So it might work out that he'd be doing well to earn 53 bob per hour, then subtract all the expenses.

Exactly, I'm sure that if the plumber could sit at home and have people bring their plumbing problems to him then he could charge less.

This is exactly what I did.

I moved to another one but I still think €55 for a 10 minute visit is too much.

In fact this makes a lot of sense.

It will save me so much time if I just change my work practices and now due to your good advice I've decided to get people to bring their sash windows to me to fix rather than me having to travel.

Think of all the time I will save in fact I could get rid of my van I'll have no more parking charges.

I could reduce my prices to get more business.

Why not let us all know who you go to and we'll all have a better price for our various ailments?
I'm sleeping with my GP so she doesn't charge me :D
Mrs Purple is a GP and charges €50 with €20 for a follow-up.

I'll advise you to be careful you have to remember that most GPs know each other.

Your wife might find out you're sleeping with your doctor.

Maybe I'll try it on with my doctor and see how I get on, he'll probably say, "No", knowing my luck.

Let the cards fall where they may. :)

my gp charges 50 euro a visit, but I recently had to take my daughter for an examination and referral to surgeon in Crumlin and was only charged 20!

I've never had to call a plumber
