Buying extra large bed and need to know where to get bed linen

Hijacking post slightly here, but does anyone have the answer to getting sheets to stop riding up on an extra deep mattress?

We didn't realise we were getting an off standard mattress but every night we have to refit the mattress cover and sheets onto it cos they've rolled up overnight. The bed is one where the mattress sits right down into the frame so its especially painful having to put the sheets on. Would extra big sheets as discussed here work?

Hi Toby

Mattresses shouldn't be much more than 12" deep as a maximum, possibly 14".

You may be able to get sheets to match, LIDL were selling fitted sheets this week which will 'grab' onto a 10" mattress with ease.

The other option is velcro... or possibly clips, the type of clips used to hold bandages closed would be ideal, they are on an elasticated strip and would grip the sheet, you could sew them onto the mattress itself and clip the sheets.

It is possible to get retainers of a kind. I bought a pack of 4 for E7.99 from a catalogue. Sorry I can't remember the name of the company. Perhaps somebody can remember the name of the company where the agent drops their brochure in the letterbox and comes back a few days later to collect brochure and possible order!!!!. Basically each retainer is made up of a piece of elastic 1" wide, probably 6/7" long, with a suspender clip on each end. What I do is, fit the sheet, then stretch the elastic to a comfortable length - focus on the corners - clip one end to the the edge of the sheet at the head of the bed and the other end to the edge of the sheet at the side of the bed. Now repeat the procedure for the other three corners. These can be easily made:)

thanks, haven't actually measured the depth of mattress but I know its a problem every night and never was with our old mattress so assuming it must be thicker than normal. Those solutions sound good though - I'll start searching online for likely suppliers.

LOL, I didn't think of the suspender clips, obviously have too little experience of them!

You'd get the bandage clips in any chemist I'd imagine, they would be the same as suspender clips although not as pretty or as emotive, maybe a little shorter which is probably better...

On a related point, when we were buying our king-size bed in Clerys, we were looking at a super-king size, but the very helpful sales guy told us we had to be sure the mattress would fit up the stairs, otherwise the delivery company would just have to leave it in the hall. while being able to bring the base up to the bedroom. Do you have sufficient clearance on your stairs?

Harvey norman do super king size linen and would probally be able to order you in bigger.

Suzy, we have a bed 6 ft 6 inches wide and we find the super king duvet and super king flat sheets are a good fit. They always have a good selection in Arnotts. We bought the fitted sheets in the US as their king size is a perfect fit for a 6' 6 " wide bed. I think you can order online from JC Penney. Good luck with your search.

So where can you get oversized sheets, especially for a deeper matresses? Beds these days are comming with foam toppers, or pillow toppers and these make the mattresses much thicker than usual.

Thanks 'JoeBallantin',
The Bed Store in Fonthill Retail Park told me on the phone that they would make a 7’ bed, but that we should go to the showroom to see the different makes. Went there on Saturday and it appears that 7’ may not be possible, and they were to let us know yesterday, but no news yet. Also phoned the Bed Factory on Harmonstown road D 5, and they said that we could order a 7’ bed on Saturday for the following Thursday (not that we are in a hurry). Haven’t been there yet, as we decided to try the Bed Store first. Mattress.ie say they make sizes to order (for an extra 15% or so) but I don’t want to go the online route as I want to see it / try it first.

‘Who Am I’,
We live in a funny house, with the main bedroom on the second floor. There is a wide staircase going up the middle of the house, so a slightly flexible large mattress and the two parts of a split base should not be a problem, but thanks for the warning!

'Nova 100’,
We will need 7’ bedding, and I can’t find any place in Ireland that does it. There are a few in the UK that do it online though.

Finally, why is it that when you ask about 7’ bedding / beds, people look at you as though you’re nuts? I don’t think that’s an excessive size for two adults who want a good night’s sleep!

Update

Some of you asked to be kept posted of developments, so here you are!

The Bed Store in Fonthill never phoned us back to tell us if they could make the bed or not - dead loss.

Went to the Bed Factory in Dublin 5 and ordered a 7' wide X 6'6" long memory foam and pocket sprung split base divan bed with four storage drawers. This was ready and delivered in 10 days - cost 1,800 (+ 30 to take away old beds). It is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in!

Couldn't get bedding to go with the bed, so I picked out what I wanted online and phoned in an order to the Big Bed Company in London. Total cost of bedding was 295 sterling. That includes duvet, duvet cover, 2 fitted sheets, mattress protector, 4 pillow cases, and valance. Most things arrived a week later, exept the duvet and protector which arrived today. Delivery was quicker than they said it would be (it took just over two weeks for everything).

Regards (and sleep tight!),
Suzywong

Surprisingly enough, Penny's are doing a lovely range of Duvet covers, flat sheets and matress sheets for Super King Size beds - they call them Hotel Quality Linen. They are really lovely and reasonably price - worth having a look. Pennys in O'Connell St, Dublin have them.
On the other subject of sheets rolling up off the mattress, on a recent trip to NY I got 'things' foam type corners, for putting on each corner of the mattress to prevent the sheet from rolling up .. great job - have never seen them in Ireland. Got them in Century 21.
