Hi,
We are in the process of trying to source a big bed (6 or possibly 7 feet wide), but foresee problems getting duvets and covers etc to go with it. Does anyone know any Irish supplier that deals in extra large sized bed linen?
Thanks.

Thanks Bob the Slob. I was hoping for somewhere in Ireland, but I guess I'll have to look abroad.

6 foot wouldn't be a problem, most of the large department stores carry a range. Can't advise on the 7 foot.
By the way, big bed is a great investment.

suzywong - are you going for a 'standard' size big bed or having one custom made? If you go for standard size you should be able to buy bed linen online I would imagine. Might be expensive but how often do you buy bed linen i suppose?

Can you post and let us know where you get it? Im interested in getting a bigger bed myself but always shied away from super king size cos of the bed linen issue!!

Thanks everybody,
My other half and I can't understand how everyone seems to sleep comfortably in a 4'6" bed. We have 6' at the moment and feel cramped (and are normal sized people!). Lots of shops say they will make most beds to size and it costs an extra 10-15%, which seems reasonable. We haven't ordered one yet because we've never seen bed linen to go with them. Will keep you posted if I find a stockist.
Suzywong.

you could put two double beds together and use seperate bed linen on each but have them pushed together as one giant bed. I stayed in a hotel in the west of Ireland that had a bed made out of two large beds with seperate bed linen. I think they had some kind of frame made to fit round the 2 bases to hold them together.

Very funny secman!
We did have a 9'6" bed at one stage made up of a 4'6" and 5' bed but it looked funny (not to mention raising visitors' eyebrows). At the moment we have two 3" beds shoved together, but think we should "regularise" things by getting a slightly bigger 7' bed. Need to know, however, if we can get a duvet etc. big enough to cover it. I'm amazed that more people don't want big beds, given that they want giant TV screens, cars etc.

ah but a beds not a 'gadget' :)

id love a bigger bed, but theres little enough space in the bedroom, a bigger bed would prevent me opening the wardrobe, and leave me with an inch or so either side to wander about on.

But if I had a big room Id definitely get a big bed.

You can always use 2 double duvets and then 1 giant throw over the two of them so it all looks like one big bedspread?

It's no problem to get linen for a 6ft bed. The SuperKing size available in Ireland fits it. Like you, I can't understand why people sleep in 5' beds when they have plenty of room for a 6'. I imagine it could be difficult to find linen for a 7' bed though, particularly if it's a very thick mattress.

[broken link removed] does emperor size (7 foot) - have not used the site myself but a friend has and was happy

Shops with European size beds e.g. Habitat sell bedlinen to match. The sheets are usually flat but they have a good selection of colours etc. I'm unsure whether they would suit a 7 foot bed though. Duffys? on Talbot St (opposite the side door of Clerys) sell a limited selection of bedlinen for bigger beds. The sheets are flat rather than fitted and they should easily fit a 6 foot bed although again I'm unsure about a 7 foot.

what about tk max, arnotts bargin basement? - could ask a hotel where they get theirs - maybe they might do you a favour? let me know how you get on as we have just ordered a super king size too!!

Sheridan, available in arnotts do big size bed linen, you can usually get it half price in the january sale. It is extra deep as well as coming in large size so if you have the off standard european size it will fit

Thanks everyone,
Argos and Arnotts do 6'6" bedlinen (super king size ) but not 7' (Emperor size, apparently). Still haven't found anywhere in Ireland that stocks it, but this place below has not 'too' expensive stuff to order online.

Hijacking post slightly here, but does anyone have the answer to getting sheets to stop riding up on an extra deep mattress?

We didn't realise we were getting an off standard mattress but every night we have to refit the mattress cover and sheets onto it cos they've rolled up overnight. The bed is one where the mattress sits right down into the frame so its especially painful having to put the sheets on. Would extra big sheets as discussed here work?

Would somebody mind telling me who in Ireland sells the 7' wide beds?

The reason I ask is that I make furniture and can make 7' wide beds as easily as any other size and have mattresses custom made to match but I haven't heard of anyone else doing the same thing... I thought it was pretty unique.

Mainly people would want longer beds rather than wider, i.e 7' long... this suits very tall people, I know one family where the sons average height is about 6'6" tall and so 'normal' beds at 6'6" long are a bit small....

I don't know anywhere for the oversize sheets, a seamstress should be able to make them for a fee... duvets are a bit more of a challange I'd expect...

Cheers
Joe

edited to add: Thanks for the link (bigBedCompany) suzywong, they do some very large beds alright, 8' x 7'3", wow! And they are very good for the linen as well.
