Has anyone noticed the Irish accent voice-overs on nature/wildlife programs on RTE these days. It's like they are trying to pretend that they made the shows when in reality they bought them on the cheap from BBC. Kinda cringy RTE...we're not that stupid

It probably changes the entire feel of the thing and is not necessary at all.
I was in the habit of watching Deadliest Catch in the US and took a look at it here and was so dissapointed. The only thing that had changed was the voice over but that changed everything. The feel and the sense of drama and danger was completly gone. It was more like a sunday afternoon picnic.

Have you tried watching "Seconds from Disaster" or "Air Crash Investigation" with Leo McKern doing the voice-over? It's laughable.

Having never seen "Deadliest Catch" with the original voicing, I'll bet I would find it impossible to watch with the US voice!

What is even worse is the poor editing that is done to US shows.
If you look at "Air Crash Investigation", I think, you will find it repeats scenes every so often.
This is due to that fact that US tv shows repeat after the add breaks because the poor souls will have forgotten what they were watching before the break.
Really irritating to watch been told somehting just told one minute before !

I thought it was Leo Enright that did voice over for one of these?

Too right, sorry about that - Leo McKern is the dead dude that used to be Rumpole. Leo Enright is the fellow that makes PK sound good.

What's the problem with Leo Enright? It's not that I'm his greatest fan, but I don't quite see what the problem is?

He manages to be both leaden and wooden at the same time. It's obvious that he's reading a script, but he doesn't do it with the same enthusiasm and you don't feel he either has the background knowledge or really cares about the subject.

The only thing he seems to get excited about is rocket launches, but there aren't many of them these days!

Listening to him do "seconds from disaster" is a bit like listening to Twink voice "Life on Earth"!

Maybe RTE should start these programs by saying "We are WAY too cheap to this ourselves so we're flogging it off as our own". Even if they had the money they certainly wouldn't have the photographic staff....have you ever noticed all the shadows in the Late Late, or the dropping mics - hilarious.

Do many other state broadcasters get license and advertising revenue?
I've watched both HRT (Croatia) and RAI (Italy) which would fit that bill and would have stronger claims to the amateurism attributed to RTE above and a general lack of quality in terms of presentation and programming in my opinion There is a longer list of public/state broadcasters here which might include details of which receive both tax/license and advertising revenue.

RTE do make some of there own wildlife programmes, Ear to the Ground,Wild Trials,Animal Rescue being just some that come to mind. All broadcasters aquire programmes, some will re-voice some won't it's really a matter for the editors and wheter or not they think the original voice overs are "regional"

Animal Rescue... God I hate those sort of programmes.
I always liked that suggestion of having Rolf Harris presenting a program about animals rescued from gory accidents - "Can you see what it is yet?".
