what do you think of kia sportage?

am thinking of changing my car for a kia sportage diesel - GSE model i think...
currently driving a renault megane cabrio...and will probably trade
unless i can sell privately...
is the sportage comfortable? economical?
does it have good road hold?
is it a safe car to drive?
was thinking of buying a year old model, have bought last few cars brand new, but they depreciate so much, the minute you drive off the forecourt!
anyone any feedback on the kia?
 
my mother has one. shes 68 and she loves it. I drove it, and for the money it does alright, so if you are happy with it, why not? I mean if you want to buy a wanky BM for the need to tell others you have a BM well I'd say u better leave the kia alone.
I like them though, kia that is

...from the feedback I've been getting (3 different unrelated sources) this seems like it might be a big problem - a 'returning to the dealer with a complaint' problem. From what I've heard it appears that the published mpg figures may be very questionable...
 
Deprecation is in warp drive figures. Auto boxes very troublesome.look for something else.The money you save in the purchase price is quickly lost in depreciation/repair bills.
 
she is one of the ugliest car on the market IMO... Watch the design around the wheel arches ..:eek:
 
I hate all the cheap and nasty Korean SUV's (Kia and Hyundai). buy a second hand European SUV instead...

Why of all the SUVs on the market have you shortlisted this one? I think we'd like some background and reasoning for this choice

7 year warranty can't be bad either

no, they do make some half decent cars especially the C'eed. It's a big improvement over previous models...
 
C'eed is a decent car and in the right step. This car was however just out in the last year, whereas the Kia sportage has been around for a while and still shares the platform of the older model Hyundai sante fe (the new model improved significantly last year). Buying a new sportage would be a bad idea and I think most would agree that they'd challenge anyone who could argue for buying a new one. 7 years warranty does sound attractive but I'd probably want 7 years servicing and parts thrown in as well to make it financially more attractive given the huge depreciation this car will suffer.
 
The new Sportage shares everything except the badge with the Hyundai Tucon and not the Santa Fe, I drove one and thought they were nice but nowhere as good as the Toyota Rav4 or Honda CRV. Then again its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy new than the others.

Sorry my mistake.

I think there's a simple reason why it is a HELL OF ALOT CHEAPER.
 
I agree. The quality of the interior and its layout was not up to that standards I'd expect of a €40k machine (in top spec and diesel). It does drive ok though, very car like. I wouldnt buy one, the percieved lack of image, the depreciation (lots heaver than the Honda/Toyota) and the interior would all put me off. I am sure some people will love tham but there are much better vehicles out there at that price. If I were in that market I'd probably go for the new shape diesel CRV/Rav4 but try get one a year old, both are new models and are only out a year or so.
 
thanks for info... i was lead to believe that the depreciation on the kia sportage is very good and deprecites like any car, where as the sorrento depreciates a lot more... i looked at the rav 4, but it doesnt seem to have half the extras that the GSE sportage has... the rav 4 is very expensive in my opinion, however i have heard it is a comfortable drive... i do have a bad back, and i guess i should take this into consideration, getting in and out of my current "babe" is a bit of a hassle not to mention the large heavy doors... maybe i will look again at the rav 4.... and settle for cloth instead of leather seats... :(
or should i just stick with a car????

and thats where the problem lies...the Tucson is one piece of $hit...

as others have said, if a similar size SUV is what you want, then go for either a Rav4/CR-V/X-Trail....but pick a diesel in a manual gear box every time otherwise, come selling time, you will not shift it that easy

one to throw in the ring is the Suzuki Grand Vitara....good bit cheaper than the RAV4 and in my opinion a nicer looking motor

Why do you want to buy the Kia Sportage?

If you're asking if you should stick with a car then perhaps you're looking at the wrong type of vehicle altogether??
