I'm surprised no one is discissing Bloom, any one at it? Went to it, really enjoyed it,has great potential.

We were at it on Thursday morning - it was lovely! Great to see something like it in Ireland. The show gardens were very impressive. The retail stuff in the tents were not as impressive - but still fun to see. THe severed limbs with roses arranged on them were a bit garish...
Look forward to seeing it next year!

Does anyone know if highlights are going to be televised? My Mum wanted to visit the event but the weather changed her mind on Sunday! Sometimes the gardening shows or Nationwide show snippets of these type of events. Anyone know? Thanks.

Lollie,

maybe you could email Bord Bia and ask if the show is to be shown on any programmes soon.

We went on Sun. but left the kids at home.. Had planned a family day but weather was atrocious. Still really enjoyable and I'm already looking forward to next years. Great location we had no prob getting in and out. Would like to see some wilder designs and more at the food court. Otherwise 8/10 .

Anyone think price of 20 euro a little steep?

Heard very good reports about it - didn't get to see it unfortunately so will have to wait until next year. I'm surprised it has taken so long for a show like this to happen in Ireland considering how interested people are in gardens these days. I'm sure it'll only get bigger and better from now on.

€20 is nothing compared to what they charge in Chelsea and similar shows in the UK. Hopefully they'll keep the ticket prices low next year.

Thought the ticket price was alright but €5 per car to park in what was essentially a big field was a bit much...

Personally I don't think that they should allow the Phoenix Park to be used as a car park at all!

There were reductions on ticket prices for advance booking (if you were prepared to take a chance on the weather!).

Yep, carparking was a tad pricey, but isn't it €6 at the Point for a show, €5 or more for Croke Park/Clonliffe, and €2.30 per hour on Dublin streets? At least the parking was cheaper than the sandwiches!

I went on Friday (best day of the lot weather-wise) and enjoyed it immensely. Visited Chelsea 4 years ago, found it very crowded and difficult to see things comfortably (the RHS opened it for an extra day from 2004 to help relieve the crowding).

I'm not suggesting transport solutions here. I'm just objecting to the use of the Phoenix Park for parking.

Should we assume that you have already lodged your objections with the Parks Department of DCC?

That's probably part of Clubman's problem with it. The Phoenix Park doesn't come under the remit of DCC afaik. You have to deal with OPW as the roads etc within it are not public roads by definition.

On the issue of price - E20 was deemed pricey by reviews I've heard in the office considering what was in there compared to other shows (eg Chelsea) those reporting had been to.

Unless they run some form of transport through it, you effective deny people, young, old, and incapacitated from access to most of it. (it being the park not just Blooms etc).

Hello,

Myself, Mrs ALERT and the 4 kids were at Bloom on Sunday, it rained but we were well prepared and forewarned by the ever accurate BBC 1 weather forecast. I felt that Eur35 was money well spent and it was a shame it rained on what I felt was a well organised event. The show gardens were interesting for the most part but not enough of them, I was disappointed to miss out on "The garden that no-one saw" as their electics were tripped by flooding. My one gripe would be with the retailers present, .. very poor show of salesmanship, some stall people were almost indifferent to the point of rudeness, quite a few were surprisingly ill-informed and I was told on more than one occasion to check details on their websites, I'm hoping that the real sales-people were at mass or something.

ALERT.

As regards the transport, there was a shuttle bus at Parkgate street to collect people travelling from train or other buses. They did advise people not to drive and I guess parking at 6euro was maybe to give people the incentive to use public transport.

I also found the sales staff not the greatest, maybe they were not used to such a roaring trade and their interpersonal skills suffered. A lot of them seemed under enormous pressure when I was there...but maybe they will learn to increase sales staff for next year.
