Yeah i dont know actually Clubman. I think Gordon made a comment about something that "happens" in a certain part of the country. Perhaps he might clarify what he means. If he was joking then its a bit low brow, disrespectful and childish. But each to their own.

Theyre shouldnt be a place on AAM for making denigrating remarks about where someone is from.

Where is this uncle/nephew rubbish coming from. Such a union would be illegal.
I'm aware of that, but @T McGibney suggested he knew of a case where it happened, hence the bit of ribbing about goings on in his neck of the woods!

Those in glass houses etc etc @torblednam and @Gordon Gekko

Whatever you are alleging happens in 1 area I am sure happens in other areas including your own and certainly in more populated areas such as Dublin.
I think the joke went over your head Arthur, take a chill pill - I very much doubt there's an uncle after marrying his nephew anywhere in the country (for tax reasons or otherwise)!

In the words of the Great Lebowski, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Methinks you're being too sensitive; as I read it the point of the joke was "I don't know what goes on where you're from, but there's definitely not uncles marrying nephews where I'm from" - where the reality in fact is there's not uncles marrying nephews anywhere. It's not denigrating where anyone's from, it's making a joke of the suggestion that illegal intra-family marriages are happening to avoid tax.

, it's making a joke of the suggestion that illegal intra-family marriages are happening to avoid tax.
Ok I made a mistake. Big deal..

I'm actually tired of your "jokes".

There was a time that such personal barbs would be decisively moderated here. I don't know why that policy ever ended.

Nice try with the selective quote @T McGibney - here's the relevant series of messages in full:

But nothing for uncle/aunt niece/nephew relationships.

We even had to have the nonsense of some lad marrying his uncle to avoid a big tax hit on the latter's death.

No, nothing, and rightly so.

I can’t comment on what goes on in the border counties late at night.

What on earth are you on about?

Uncles marrying their nephews up your direction, purportedly...

Explaining @Gordon Gekko 's comment doesn't make it my joke (not that there was anything wrong with the joke, I'm simply clarifying because you're lashing out at me over it).

I do try to post with a bit of good humoured wit - I've just double checked the posting guidelines and there's definitely nothing there about witty repartee.
