I have just enjoyed the Wednesday special of fresh Cod and chips from the San Marino takeaway for €10. Plenty in it for myself and my wife.

We have this about once every three weeks and it is very satisfying.

I also used a €5 off Dunnes Stores voucher on a €28 spend this morning. Got the box of Heroes more or less for free.

I moved house recently and the takeaway across the road is superb. It's a real struggle not to get dinner from them every week.

Vehicle fuel saving tips: Remove unused roof racks, remove other excess weight, drive in a high gear between 60 - 80km ph max.

But please don't do it on a motorway or where the rest of the traffic is moving faster.

80kmph is perfectly acceptable in the left hand lane.
Speeds posted on roads are limits not targets.
If the rest of the traffic is moving at 95Kmph and you are driving at 80 then you are causing other motorists to slow and then change lanes. That's dangerous.
If you drive slower than the flow of traffic doing your driving test (obviously within the speed limit and you wouldn't be on a motorway) then you'll fail due to "failure to progress".

Twice on Saturday mornings in the past 3 weeks I've found myself on the M50. On both occasions there have been long tailbacks owing to minor rear-ending accidents, both in the general area between Carrickmines and Bray exits.

It's not difficult to see why.

We're taking the thread off topic and we've all been around the blocks a few times on this issue so I'll leave it there.

I switched the central heating off, for the whole winter.... as an experiment.
Call it voluntary discomfort.
Like anything, you get used to it.

I just hope you live in a well insulated home. I make sure I don't heat the place when there's nobody around, but completely turning it off even during the not-particular-harsh Irish winters would be one of those "last resort" actions for me. I hope that your financial situation isn't that dire...

Be aware of: causation vs correlation. Not a topic for a throw-away comment methinks.
It's certainly not a throwaway comment and I can add further detail regarding causation/correlation if you really want me to.

Turning off the heating in winter is a favourite tool of a psychological abuser/control freak.

No need. I am familiar. I just don't feel it being the right place in the context of this arguably intended to be more light-hearted thread. YMMV.

Pubs used to serve chips and sausages in the evenings to encourage people to stay. Any that still do that? Just small portions.
Not sure it ages money being encouraged to stay for another drink
