Transport vs Social Welfare

Not all Cabinet mercs & percs are equal.

Finance tend to get invited to the races;

Arts and Culture invited to Premiers;

Health - invited to speak at doctors' conferences at exotic locations abroad;

Transport free trips at the opening of the Luas;

Social Welfare - ugh?? preferential treatment on the dole Qs when you lose your job??

And anyway (as they say) you're one to talk about making your mind up in advance! You party line tow'er, you.

I can see the point that you are trying to make. I suppose transport is seen as a ministry that is vibrant and a lot of money goes into big capital projects that can leave a lasting legacy for the minister concerned whereas social welfare is a current expense and seen as static and not contributing to the future of the country. I know you can pick out that last line and have a dance about it but I hope you see what I am getting as a general point. I suppose what I am trying to say is that social welfare gives less tangible results so ministers can’t put their mark on it as much as they can in other ministries.
