Wife gets how much from sale of home ?

You are confusing the replies on here with sexual politics. If the story was the other way around ie the sexes being different the replies wouldn't be the same.

Of course they both can have separate accounts, perfectly normal, more normal nowadays I would have thought. And of course the solicitor can pay them out half each, both their names are on the property and the solicitor can not just pay one party only.

There though is obviously an issue otherwise you wouldn't be posting. The fact the wife went to the solicitor on her own to confirm she would be paid separately for example, the husband being out of the country, the husband saying he will give her 'a share'.

You didn't ask, but it would be my opinion that the wife's 'loan' to the husband to start a business might mean she is entitled to a share in the business. As in is it a 'loan' or an 'investment'.

Sale proceeds and bank accounts

This money is from the sale of a family home and is therefore free of CGT. It would be odd or unwise for the husband to lodge it into his business account. It should go into his savings account. If the business needs the money then he should discuss with his accountant the best way to do this. If the business is not going well and likely to collapse then a wise husband might leave the wife the sale proceeds. For mutual love and affection. (The Sean Dunne defense)
