Why do papers give negative stories priority over positive (from buyers viewpoint)

Re: Why do papers not report good news on property prices?

I see now, I didn't write the title or start the thread you see, it seems to have been done on my behalf. I haven't said at any time to my knowledge 'why do papers not report good news on the property market'

...

I feel there was a little mischief making here by someone who may not agree with my views.
Well you "own" the thread by virtue of your post having started it so change the thread title to something more accurate if you want!

Good idea, now I just have to figure out how to edit a thread (still have figured out smilies)

Re: Why do papers not report good news on property prices?

At the end of the day your point is ridiculous. Papers do not report good news on the market, as yet (for sellers), there is none. Yes there are some houses selling for a good price but in the main these are one offs in great locations.

If the newspapers started to print a "balanced" view of the market they would be ridiculed as being propaganda for VIs. The market has not bottomed yet so there is no point in pretending it has.

But the papers are reporting on the market as a whole not on individual properties. On the whole the market is falling and that is what the newspapers are reporting.

You have an amazing knowledge on the market across the land. It is merely one offs in great locations that achieve high price, thats not the case.

Is your point here that the papers can't print a balanced view for fear of ridicule?

I agree with you about the majority of the market has seen a decline, I seem to be misinterpreted as someone trying to ignore the market slowdown because of self interest but that is not the case. My point is that the market is being continuously painted as dying on its feet and general points like 15% drops in prices are being bandied about as if they apply to each and every property in the land. There are still properties doing well. Sure one offs in great locations are still exceeding asking prices , but some estates are still in demand, I've seen one development sell 1st phase (50 odd ) inside a month of launch and so on.

Brendan posted about a letter to the times getting printed on how someone managed to get a house for €100k less than asking, so papers are printing individual cases, my other point was that if that case was flip sided I doubt very much that it would have been printed because people only want to hear about the prices falling.
