I am trying to source new wooden flooring to run throughout a rental house. It needs to be easy to clean and capable of being fitted over underfloor heating ( hence I think, no nails). I like the idea of the white/whitewashed look. I'm not keen on laminate as I don't think it is hardwearing. Should I just go for a solid floor and paint/whitewash it? Any one any experience of this.
 
If you look at quick-step flooring they have a great range of flooring. they are laminate but you can go for the 4 bevel plank effect and in any colour and any wood type. You can choose your room and design online as a guide to how it might look on quick-step.com.
I have seen it in effect and it looks really well, but it is more expensive than regular laminate but the reason why is obvious when you see it. You would be hard pushed to seperate it from solid depending on the choice of finish you go for.
Putting a solid floor into a rental home isn't necessary and it doesn't guarantee to be hard wearing.
 
Thanks Mr.Man, worth looking into- apparently you get a 25 year warranty with this quick step stuff!
 
Thats a bonus I wasn't aware of but there are places in Limerick that supply it, so I'm sure it can be seen in the rest of Ireland.

We have it and I would definitely recommend it. Had worried about the dogs and their nails scratching it but no problem so far. I had felt the laminate might look cheap and thought long and hard about the solid. Its great and I understand this is something similar http://www.balterio.com/

Oh great, would you know where? I've looked at the website and I like the four beveled effect but I'd like to see it in reality.

That's great to hear, makes me much more positive about it. How long have you had it?
 
I got it myself in Tower carpets on Lower Gerald Griffin St. I checked out a few places and he worked out the best, ask for price with and without fitting as any carpenter you might know can fit it pretty easily and it worked out cheaper for me to just get it delivered and pay someone else to fit it. I have it 2 and half years now and it still looks really well. There is another place in Eastway but i cant remember the name.

Nearly a year. Quick Step appears to have a very good reputation with all the shops/fitters. The only thing that drives me about it (and I understand it applies to most wooden floors) are the balls of fluff which would need to be cleaned away on a daily basis.

Having listened to friends complain about the damage done to solid/semi-solid by stilettos I decided to opt for it. I think its your best bet in a rental property.
 
i have no experience of white flooring, but i think ikea does a white laminate
