An email from Siro late last year indicated we'd have fibre to the house first quarter in 2025
So it's coming but won't be here in time for when I have to renew
Yes VM is an option but past experience, although many years ago has left me with bitter taste regarding them
and would only go near them if I had no choice and even then I might think otherwise

I'm happy enough with the service and speeds I'm getting, not so happy that I will be paying the same price as the full fibre
and most defiantly not happy with Eir's or Vodafone's pricing policy's and can see that model becoming standard across many service providers

I'm with Digiweb and I am very satisfied with them. They are Irish and based in Dundalk, I think. Easy to reach and helpful with any queries - local staff. But in truth I have never had an service issues. The Fritzbox modem/router is very good. Apparently the best of the service provider routers.

I'm on the 1000mbs Siro package. I don't need 1000mbs but the package suits me as it includes free landline (VOIP) calls to Ireland and UK landlines and mobiles. I hadn't realised that they also provided a 100mbs fibre package but they do (with same landline package included). It may be of interest to you and I assume they would upgrade to full fibre when available. As they are helpful on the phone it may be worth chatting to them. The price for the 100mbs is the same as the 1000mbs and you can negotiate with them on price at the end of the first year. They do have an upgraded router version on the 1000mbs package, so if you are considering them you probably should enquire about this before any order.

€35 p.m. for 12 months on 500Mbps for a new customer versus...

So after 6 years of BB for €30pm it seems the cheapest now that I can get will be €35pm for 100 down and 18 up

I don't think it's a case of "might", I won't deal with VM because of all the hassle I've had with them in the past
As far as I'm concerned the bridge is burnt and there is no chance of it been built again even if it was for free

True but it might be worth asking them if they would agree to upgrade you as soon as fibre becomes available locally - without waiting the best part of a year.

We've had Virgin BB and landline for years. Always paying a tad too much. Last year, we added TV and Sky Sports (we left Sky, who had been our TV supplier for a long time).

Time to renew again now. I've never considered cancelling VM and renewing as a new customer. I've only ever haggled the existing contract for another year. Their BB is very good and we use the landline quite a bit for calls to international mobiles and landlines.

Our BB provider for the last 5 years was Vodafone (using open eir fibre). For the last two years the "loyalty team" renewed our contract at "new business" prices with very little resistance. This year there was no way they would give us anything other than a significant price increase. So we flipped to eir. Same physical fibre, 15 minute downtime, and because we have our own router all that was needed was to change the username and password and reboot. Also cut the service from 1GB to 500MB and haven't noticed the difference.

Vodafone have SIRO fibre here at a lower price but said they couldn't offer it to us as it is available to new customers only !! I didn't push it as I don't want it - a few of the neighbours who have SIRO fibre ended up with the fibre supply running up, down and across the front of their houses and there is no way I'd allow that.
