Just back from abroad & looking for work. The days of posting off the cv is gone, but as i don't have the internet at my temporary home, it's difficult to find internet access.
The local library doesn't have MS Word, so can't type up a cv there. Fair enough, their attitude is the inet is only for research, which I accept. They told me to contact FAS,but FAS don't have any internet access for unemployed. They only run training courses or career advice.
So the question is, what do other unemployed people do if they don't have broadband at home, hop on a bus into town and spend €3/hour in internet cafes ? I reckon I'll spend at least 20 hours/week job searching on the web which will add up.

Most or all public libraries offer internet facilities these days. You may need to book in advance though and the time available may be limited (e.g. by the hour). If the library doesn't have Word then why not type the CV up in plain text format and then jazz it up somewhere else that has Word? On the other hand many employers and agencies prefer plain text CVs these days so maybe you don't need anything fancy?

I would have thought a prospective employment agency would let you do up a c.v. in a nice format if you have a skillset that they think they could sell.
Might be worth a try if you go about it in a nice way.

They may be able to help

Once you have it typed up then using an web based email account
(e.g hotmail) email it to yourself and then using the library computer you could forward it on to any vacancy
Or if you know someone who could email it of for you each time

My local library in Tralee actively encourages the use of openoffice (the free alternative to ms office).

I notice that the internet spaces get booked up pretty quickly each day.

Some internet cafes only charge €1 an hr and i think some offer weekly discount rates so if you look around there are less expensive options
