I need to replace my net curtains as they are old/torn. I had a looki in clerys, Arnotts, Hickeys, and Duffys, but was disappointed in the range available as the patterns seemed very dated looking. I thought the voile one looked good but I think they dont give much privacy. Could anyone suggest somewhere else to look? thansk.

There's a curtain shop in Finglas Village facing the old Iceland Store they have nice net curtains - you could try there and you're right the voile gives no privacy. I think new stock comes into those shops you mentioned in the middle of October you might want to wait until then.

Didn't manage to try those places yet as I was too busy, but will try in mid-October. thanks again folks.

Just to update you all on my net curtain search. Had a look for that shop in finglas as I was passing one day but couldn't find it. I've looked in the shops in town (Dublin city centre that is) and also Stillorgan Decor. Stillorgan Decor have the ones that you have to order so a bit expensive. Duffys of Nth Earl St. have several designs. I have decided on a rose floral pattern but they dont have my sizes in it so I still have to wait! grr!

Not sure if it's still there but there used to be a fantastic net curtain shop on Meath Street in the Liberties area of Dublin. Also, have you tried upstairs in Guineys in Talbot St? Both worth checking, both excellent value!

I'll try Meath street as it's not too far away for me. Also would you know if floral patterns are considered old-fashioned nowadays? I'd like something that looks up to date but have found the Gardisette ones are very very expensive.

I might try Ballyfermot if you think they have a good selection of ordinary nets, not the ones like Gardisette that you have to order.
Thanks folks.

I would second Kavanagh's in Ballyfermot, they have quite a good selection of nets and they are excellent value - I got mine there and was astounded at how much cheaper it was than getting the same ones from Hickeys (where I had also priced them). They are also supposed to be very good for blinds.

What about a translucent roller blind instead of a net curtain? I had the same problem with net curains. All of the options are either old fashioned, very expensive or don't provide much privacy. Stillorgan decor centre arrange the makeup of the blinds and they work out cheaper than having net curtains made with a modern fabric. They can also be fitted to twist and turn windows, or any window that opens in.

Update on curtain search: I did try all the places recommended but seem to be out of luck as they had a very limited range of patterns. I ended up buying at Duffys in Talbot Street, Dublin, - a floral pattern which is ok but wouldn't have been my first choice. I had bought net curtains for daughter's apartment in Vienna there a few months ago and got to like her pattern as it was a plain kind of spiral lines pattern but when i went to buy it for my house they did'nt have the right sizes and it was a discontinued pattern. I then picked three other patterns in a row and they did not have all my sizes in them, so I had to settle for my fourth faviourite pattern.

I wouldn't go for the blinds as I would find them awkward when undressing in bedroom and also they block out the sky.
