My mistake. I didn't see that detail either. Always happy to stand corrected. It literally set-out when exactly it happened in stages across Dublin in the link I shared.
1990-1994.
Unless you have something to the contrary?
And your ex girlfriends numbers...
Thanks to my da's job as an inspector in the Corpo we had one earlier than many neighbours so would have a steady stream of them dropping in to make a call and leaving their tenpence behind to pay for it. When other neighbours got one installed it was a big deal to be the first to call the new number for some reason. I'm surprised that the priest didn't do house calls to bless the new technology...Back then, even our local GP had to wait for months before getting a phone installed.
I think the 80s is when they went to 6 digitsI remember it being in the mid 1980's but I can't find any specifics online.

No, but the varicose veins are killing me.Your feet must be hurting so.
Dublin went from 5 to 6 digits around 1958, per this reply in an old boards thread.I think the 80s is when they went to 6 digits
Sounds like that early scene in Goodfellas.I used to spend a lot of my time answering calls for neighbours and being told to go and get them to take the call. Don't remember ever getting any money as a tip for doing the good deed which at that time kids looked forward to
That’s two Goodfellas references this month.Sounds like that early scene in Goodfellas.
Must be Jimmy Two Times. That’s two Goodfellas references this month.
Has to be some kind of record.
Funny…like a clown.Must be Jimmy Two Times.
Why were you sitting on the table in the hall?I remember my parents getting a cream coloured telephone, sitting on the table in the hall.
I remember having to do this too!I used to spend a lot of my time answering calls for neighbours and being told to go and get them to take the call.
Now that I remember it. We did not have a chair to sit on beside the phone. I either sat on the floor or on the bottom steps of the stairs. Why were you sitting on the table in the hall?
