The 01 area was increased from 6 to 7 digits before that.
In stages from 1990-1994.
Yep.Hands up if you still remember the landline number in your family home - and reciting the number when you answered the phone was considered polite!

I remember my ex-wife's number; 666.And your ex girlfriends numbers...
reciting the number when you answered the phone was considered polite!
Sometimes, she got her money back , other times she got more than she bargained for .......like an answer..Probably because she was calling you from a coinbox, and if she had dialled the wrong number, she could have pressed Button B and got her money back.

You would need a good memory for those numbers thoughAnd your ex girlfriends numbers...
It literally set-out when exactly it happened in stages across Dublin in the link I shared. The 01 area was increased from 6 to 7 digits before that.
In 1998 on 16 th July the Irish times had an article announcing the changes to numbering systems in some Dublin areas due to extra demand for phone lines .My family home number was 6 digits when I was a kid.
But at some stage a 2 was added before the number.
In other areas a 4 was added.
I would like to know the year this happened.

I'd be of the same opinion, if I remember correctly the numbers in Greystones got a 2 as the lead numberI remember it being in the mid 1980's but I can't find any specifics online.
