What's the best way to sell stuff online?

I've checked out Ebay but felt it was ridiculously overstocked with very low prices. I'm looking for a side line to supplement my monthly wage at the moment and I do have vintage/designer clothes/shoes/bags/rare books that I'd love to offload at reasonable prices.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any selective sites, am very open to suggestions!

I guess what I'm looking for is a site where my stuff would stand out and not be trampled to the bottom of a list.

btw, do you reply to every topic in this place? :p

Ralphie, there's plenty of junk on Ebay but there's lots of quality stuff too which attracts good money - I wouldn't dismiss the idea of selling there just yet. Check on [broken link removed] to see what kind of prices your brands/vintage clothes have been getting recently.

You can also set up your own Ebay shop in the longer term which could work out well if your clothes prove popular.

Why not try out selling an item or three?

PS Just checked, a 1970 Vintage Motorcycle Leather Bomber Jacket sold for £1,020 recently!! Hope you have a few of them in your stock room!

Hi Ralphie - i'm in the same situation as you. I put 10 items on ebay but they all sold for ridicolously below retail value.E.g - bought a skirt before xmas for €240, put a starting price of €60 on it and got no bids. I also put an Abercrombie top on it that was new with tags, it's worth €149 dollars and i only got €15 for it.:(

I see two problems with selling second hand clothes on ebay;
1. I expect that most people like to try on clothes before they buy. Then again, those clothes catalogue companies are still operating. Maybe they do a returns thing.

2. Unless classic clothes, I would expect that clothes depreciate hugely. People who like trendy labels, maybe also like the white shelves and marble style floors of retail units.

Anyone remember boo.com? (they're coming back, apparently)

Because i did that on some of my items and they didnt sell - i just want to get rid of the stuff, i hate clutter. I usually put a bag of clothes out every 2 months with tags on them to charity. I though at least this way i'll get something for them.

Ya - but the clothes arent second hand.
What's boo.com?

No - i want to make money from the items. Even though, thanks anyway, you've just let me know where i can get rid of some furniture.:)

When i talk about getting rid of the stuff, the stuff i mention is brand new, never worn or used! Whilst in the past i have given these things to charity, i have now decided to try and sell online and try to make some money from them.
Sorry if you were confued bushfire.

......the stuff i mention is brand new, never worn or used.....

Maybe a better idea would be to stop buying these goods in the first place?

Bit of a shopaholic im afraid and have somewhat of a phobia of bringing things back to a shop. Alot of the stuff are things i bought on ebay in the first place.

Hey purple alien, I've been thinking about taking my stuff to a swop shop - they take a big cut though which is putting me off!

Setting up my own ebay site sounds interesting, I presume I would sell something really good on ebay at a good price which would generate a lot of interest and link back to my own ebay site in the advertisement - is this right?

I'm waiting on my credit card to come from Halifax recommended in best buys in this forum before I test my market!! How did I get this far without one, I wonder!!
