I think comprehensive water tests costs a bit more than €54 a bit closer to €100 I imagine.

You are correct about the higher cost for a comprehensive test (88 euro). However that includes a bacteriological test which probably would not be required in this case. I use these guys for testing well water annually. Results are comprehensive.

When getting your water tested it is a good idea to include a range of metals such as Iron and Manganese and also Arsenic and Lead. And test for Ph.

All well water, indeed all water contains dissolved elements unless it has been fully purified. What specifically did you ask them to test for, and did they give you a breakdown of the results in writing? The HSE tests are focused on whether it is suitable for human consumption.

Hi Andrea

Welcome to Ireland. A lot of local water supplies get a green dye added in late February in preparation of St Patrick's Dye. Have you checked with Uisce Eireann or your local council? It should wash out automatically in late March and early April.

All joking aside, it's potentially caused by an excess of copper in the water. Doesn't mean it's dangerous and potentially some water filters may help but no guarantee. If the tests come back negative,, that may indicate the issue is not with the water itself but with the copper piping in the house as well.

As for how you test, I assume there are companies that will do this but no idea who

I don't know the science but copper chloride diluted in water is apparently green coloured.

"And of course, many natural and bottle blondes have a horror story about swimming in a pool with improperly balanced chemicals and coming out with green hair. (If that happens it means the copper content in the pool is too high; most water sources have copper in them, and when you add chlorine, it can oxidize the copper and other hard-water minerals. These minerals then saturate your hair, turning it green-ish. Stripping those chemicals from the hair is the key to getting back to that icy blonde or foxy silver color you’d prefer.)"
