Walnut Doors/Floors.....Too Dark?

I am currently renovating our house and need to decide on flooring on doors. I definetly want some sort of timber door (not white) and had thought that the walnut doors where nice but I also like the solid walnut flooring.
Am thinking though that having walnut flooring/doors/frames/skirting would be too dark and too much walnut.
Looked at light oak doors which where nice too so considering using those and then the walnut flooring. But would that look odd- having two different kinds of wood and if I did go down that route I presume that the door frame and the skirting would be the same colour as the door.
Hope that makes sense, someone please help my confusion!!

I have walnut floors in approx 2/3 of my house.My wife had the same query as you.Would walnut doors make the house v. dark.In the end we got standard pine doors & painted them white.I think it looks good (& a good deal cheaper than walnut doors, door frames, architraves etc.).

I have walnut flooring (laminate) upstair in 3 rooms with white doors, skirting etc...
Wife loves it therefore I love it!

We have Walnut floors in one room for about two years now. They did look dark when originally put down but they have lightened up. The white doors would provide a contrast.

Walnut & white oak complement each other very nicely.

My sister has walnut floors combined with egg-shell off-white skirting boards and light walls (e.g. linen white, sepia, etc from Dulex naturals collection). It looks very classy and not at all too dark. I would say go for it.

Pm me too with the photos...I love looking at other peoples houses. I've been known to give the odd decorating tip too which, although I say so myself, have gone down a treat.
 
So Vanilla what is your decorating tip for me then in realtion to the doors/floors

Going for walnut floors myself. We have reddeal skirting though, very light in colour. Would the walnut look out of place with skirting?
 
Walnut doors and floors might be abit dark, but it would really depend on the amount of light you have and how you decorate the rest of the room (walls & soft furnishings).

Don't be afraid to use complementary woods....I remember us deliberating about a wood choice before, until the carpenter pointed out that wood goes with wood....if fact most different woods look great togeather. Nature lets oaks, beech, walnut etc grow togeather & I've never heard of anyone going into a wood complaining about them clashing !!
 
roadrunner would advise you too paint the red deal skirting if you were going for the walnut flooring,red deal and walnut in my opinion would look awful,another thing too remember is that in my experence with darker wood on floors you see the marks very easily after a little while,scratches and wear and tear,unless its the distressed wood which is fantastic for kitchens and busy hallways,the more abuse they get the better they look,but this style is not suited too some houses,well at least these are a few suggestions worth considering before you buy your flooring ok.
 
We have a walnut floor with a centre piece going into a reception room ([broken link removed]). But honed marble tiles going into hallway/kitchen and parquet flooring into family room.

I had fallen in love with gorg walnut doors from Trunk flooring BUT our carpenter warned us as to how easily they marked. A BIG consideration with two young boys so instead we went for an Oak door from Doras Proma range.

So I'm more concerned with overall look in the house then matching doors to floors in individual rooms. We're getting white oak skirting, base blocks and corner blocks from Designer wood products. I would agree with other posters you'll never get wood to match wood. Its a natural non uniform product but different types compliment each other too.
 
have a look at chinese walnut which has a trace of pine through it which lightens it up.

its available in most outlets now

I have so many ideas, but I don't want to risk taking this thread out of here and into the depths...which is what happened last time I got started on my interior design skills.;)
 
I saw flooring today called "Tiger Walnut" and loved the contrasting colors running throught it. I am thinking of putting it down.
Has anyone used it or seen it.
 
imo walnut is lovely...i have a lot of it in my house..dont go too mad with it because you will see big dif between the dif products.ie floors and doors..
one other thing to keep in mind walnut is soft..it will mark very easy on the floor..hope that helps
