OK. My interpretation of the original poster's query was that he specifically wanted to have access to VoIP telephony from downstairs. If it's simply that the phone/broadband connection is in the attic and there are no other connection points elsewhere in the house (odd since eircom normally put the main one just inside the downstairs of the house) then a standard DECT cordless setup would do the trick alright.
OK - nobody had mentioned ATAs before this. I was assuming that VoIP was working a la Skype on the PC/laptop or something like that.
