VOIP - Dual Phone

I have got my broadband up & working and I have got my VOIP working also. All fine so far, my problem is that all of my broadband set up is in the attic room, whereas I would mainly use the phone downstairs.

Is there any phone type that I can have one part plugged in in the attic, but also a seperate phone with a cradle for downstairs as I don't really want to be going up & down the stairs all the time to put the cordless phone in a cradle in the attic.

I hope that I am making myself clear.

Thanks

Christy

A wireless router in the attic and a WiFi enabled cordless VoIP phone perhaps?

if you log onto the smart telecom website and buy a double package of void phones .its 2 cordless void phones so you can leave one plugged into the cradle in your attic and just use the other one downstairs, didnt cost that much,

There are plenty of standard DECT phones that fit the bill, try the usual suspects (Argos etc.)

As an alternative you can now get VoIP capable DECT base stations (e.g. Siemens Gigaset) that would also be suitable, you will need to check with your VoIP supplier to make sure they work OK.

I would have suggested the dual handset dect phone as the previous poster has. This is the same setup I am using, and it works fine. Wireless voip phones are a bit pricey for what you get, hopefully prices will fall and features will rise to make them more worthwhile, but in the mean time dual handset dect phones are the way to go in my opinion.

OK. My interpretation of the original poster's query was that he specifically wanted to have access to VoIP telephony from downstairs. If it's simply that the phone/broadband connection is in the attic and there are no other connection points elsewhere in the house (odd since eircom normally put the main one just inside the downstairs of the house) then a standard DECT cordless setup would do the trick alright.

That was my take on things too, I'm suggesting that the OP plug their DECT base station into the ATA/router and keep a handset with separate charger downstairs.

OK - nobody had mentioned ATAs before this. I was assuming that VoIP was working a la Skype on the PC/laptop or something like that.

Good point, perhaps the OP could clarify the question? Is your VoIP service running on your computer or do you have an external box?

Thanks for all the replies. Just to clarify, my VOIP is running on a seperate box, so it looks like a dual DECT handset should do the trick. What price should I expect to pay for that, or what are the best options out there?

Thanks

Dual DECT sets range from dirt cheap to expensive depending on what you are looking for. Check the Argos catalogue as mentioned above to get an idea of the options and prices.
