I have cable broadband but want to upgrade to full fibre. I’ve put in a cancellation request and VM have offered to upgrade the connection for free and give me the usual 9 months half price.
Bonkers.ie have a current VM offer of 40 pm, 24 month contract for new customers .VM tell me this doesn’t exist!
Has anyone switched to a new connection in their other half’s name, same property obviously and how has it worked out for them in practice ?
Any experience most appreciated

Have emailed Bonkers Sue Ellen. Awaiting response.
Really looking to know if anyone has switched names without controversy at the same house.

No, but I've cancelled and signed back up as a new customer, in order to get the "new customer" deals, using my own details (identical to before) several times without any problems.

Edit: I really should read the full thread before replying. Just saw @Sue Ellen's post above now. ;)

Just to update….Bonkers say it’s a valid offer for sign up. VM person on phone (India?) says it doesn’t exist.
I know who I believe.

Yes, i did this around 12 months ago and had no problems - cancelled the contract in my name and used wife's email etc to re-sign up to half price and better internet speed (not fibre however). 24 month contract, same address. Was pretty seamless - they sent a new horizon box which was plug+play.

As I've said before, you don't have to use someone else's details to sign up again. You can use your own again. I've done it for several years in a row now.

Just to follow up…..cancelled the account in my name. Wife set up a new ftth account 500mb @ €40/24 months ago. Seamless transfer over with 2 day overlap. No set up charges.

Clubman, I take your point about using your own name again but it’s good to have Mrs Billybob’s name on at least one bill

I cancelled mine three weeks ago. They came back on e-mail with the usual 9 months for half price offer on which I didn't bite. Looks like I'm going the Clubman route in the next week and a half.

Hi just had a look at my own broadband bills which apparently I've had with the same provider for 16 years (!!!). So I rang and cancelled, it'll be implemented in 30 days. So do I just ring back in 30 days as a 'new' customer?

(Customer service guy told me that none of the other companies can provide 500mB as VirginMedia does, the others can only guarantee 24mB. I'm in Dublin 8. Anyone know if this is true?)
